News Reports for Classroom Magazines and Periodicals
About This Product
There are just some weeks I cannot get to our news periodical…two or three weeks go by, and I haven’t been able to get to several editions! Ack! What do you do with that stack??? Have your kids give a news report!
Students use the main article as their “headlining story” and then must choose at least one smaller story (or two if class time allows) to present as a smaller “event”. The 5 Ws must be included for both. (Organizers for both the headliner and the side events are in this packet). Items in this packet can serve as reading grades (main idea, nonfiction), writing grades (analyzing the five Ws presented), and even a social studies grade (current events), if you want to use the opportunity for cross curriculum grading.
Included for you:
Teaching notes to explain possibilities for class use
Observation Sheet for Students - homework assignment to watch a news broadcast
Graphic Organizer for Students - 2 organizers for students to use to dissect and analyze nonfiction articles from weekly/monthly classroom periodicals
Rubric for Teachers - 2 options for grading (generic rubric and one rubric broken into multiple subjects
Opportunities for students:
Reading nonfiction for main ideas and details
Organizing main ideas and details in writing

Creativity! - Sometimes I have groups that even throw in a commercial!
