It’s an easy-to-use lesson for a finance, career and personal planning, family and consumer sciences, life skills, or applied math class.
How to Use:
1. Students will learn the basic vocabulary (including rate of return and principal) and concepts (including risk versus reward and time horizon) surrounding investments.
2. Six different kinds of investments are introduced (savings accounts, GICs, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and Exchange Traded Funds).
3. For each, students will determine the basic pros and cons and research to find one or more current interest rates and/or rates of return. They can use the information on the worksheets and complete more research online.
4. Finally, students are asked to decide how they would invest a $1 million inheritance into 3 different kinds of investments.
