About this resource

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Read and understand short French informational texts about ten different professions
Identify a text's main idea, a worker's primary task or role, from directly stated information
Locate specific supporting details, such as tools used or where a worker is employed, within the text
Answer interpretive questions that require connecting two pieces of information from the text, such as why a specific skill or step matters
Teaching tips
Pre-teach profession-specific vocabulary before reading, since terms like 'échantillons' or 'écosystèmes marins' in the marine-biologist text are not defined within the passage itself.
Since there's no answer key, plan to review answers as a class against the text, or prepare your own key from the ten passages provided.
Assign one or two texts a week across the term rather than all ten at once, since each stands alone and does not build on a previous page.
Skills covered
Reading comprehension in French — students read a short informational paragraph and answer questions requiring recall and light inference.
Main idea and detail identification — students distinguish a text's central role description from its supporting details (tools, setting, qualities).
Profession-specific vocabulary — students encounter career-related French vocabulary, such as pompier, biologiste marin, and météorologue, in context.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
Do the ten texts increase in reading difficulty, or stay at a similar level throughout?
The paragraphs stay at a similar length and sentence complexity throughout, roughly six to eight simple present-tense sentences each, rather than progressing from easier to harder texts.
Are the four questions per text the same format each time?
Each set follows the same pattern: a main-task question, a detail question about tools or setting, a question about required qualities, and a fourth question asking students to explain or connect an idea from the text.
