About this resource

Ten worksheets focus on the short and long sounds of the five vowels. Using the picture cues, pupils complete words by writing the missing letter for the named sound on each page. Select a page to match your current phonics lesson, or compare the short- and long-vowel pages for the same letter.

Curriculum reference — England: The vowel contrast supports early phonics; remove unsupported K–2 stage from the title. Selected skills only; reference stage is not an overall reading age, complete curriculum coverage, or an automatic recommendation for every learner.
