Turn And Talk Anchor Chart

Identify the physical behaviours expected during a partner talk (eye contact, listening posture, taking turns speaking).

Explain, in their own words, how to talk to and listen to a partner respectfully.

Use the completed chart to introduce partner-talk expectations, then have students fill in the two blank copies from memory as a quick check.

Display a printed copy on a reading bulletin board, or have students glue a smaller copy into their interactive reading notebooks for a personal reference.

Model each of the five behaviours physically (nodding, eye contact, hands in lap, knees touching) while introducing the chart, since these are largely nonverbal expectations.

Active listening posture — students learn nonverbal listening behaviours such as nodding and eye contact.

Turn-taking in conversation — students practice letting one partner speak at a time.
