Stuart Little Activity Character Acrostic Poems
ELA, Literature, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities
This fun activity goes along with the novel Stuart Little, by E. B. White. In this activity , students create acrostic poems for characters from the story. Acrostic poems are a fun way to check students' understanding of the reading. Make sure to first go over how to complete an acrostic poem with words or short phrases that describe the character. The characters students will be writing a poem for are Stuart, Margalo, George, and Snowbell. Stuart Little is usually read by 2nd through 4th graders. If you've never done an acrostic poem with your students, make sure they understand how to complete one. It's important they understand that the words and phrases MUST make sense to the character they've read about. For example, the S in Snowbell could stand for 'Sneaky.' The A in Margalo could stand for 'A good friend. You could have a discussion whole group first about how they would describe each of the characters. Students could also work in small groups. When students complete activities where they focus on the actions and traits of the characters in the story, they will understand the story better. They will also understand why characters act the way they do in the story.

Measurements: Volume
Math, Measurements, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Activities
Measurements: Volume This invaluable tool is perfect for educators as it provides a comprehensive and engaging approach to teaching volume in a practical setting. It's recommended for students at a Grade 3 or higher level, specifically those focused on math education surrounding measurements. Homework Activity The initial activity encourages learners to locate various liquid storing containers from their home environments. These containers should have labels indicating volume held in liters (l) or milliliters (ml). They should find three different sizes: A container roughly one liter, About half a liter (or nearly 500 milliliters), An item notably smaller than half a liter. This helps students comprehend the real-world applications of understanding volume by using everyday items. In-Class Worksheet Activity In the follow-up exercise, teachers will present students with an array of emptied and labeled containers (A through F), some brought from home. The task here is to estimate each container's volume; allowing them to calculate and understand discrepancies between estimates and actual measurements—key concepts in measurement accuracy. Note: Both these activities are editable giving flexibility depending on classroom needs ranging from mixed-abilities, faster learners requiring extra challenges, or slower learners needing more accessible content alternatives. Possible Implementations Class-wide collective sessions promoting collaborative learning skills and peer-assisted comprehension improvement, Focused group interactions facilitating deeper discussions among participants — Homework assignments enabling direct application at homes individually for stimulating learner visualization while calculating volumes. * NOTE: This resource does not include answer sheets due to its hands-on learning approach.

Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little Activities Compare and Contrast Characters
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities
In this activity, students practice the skill of comparing characters from the novels Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, by E.B. White. Graphic organizers can be a great way to help students organize their thoughts. The graphic organizer I chose for this activity is a Venn Diagram . Venn Diagrams are perfect for comparing and contrasting two things. There are several characters in Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little that work well for this activity. I've created three worksheets where students will be comparing Wilbur and Stuart, Charlotte and Margalo, and Templeton and Snowbell. This activity works well with second through fourth graders who have read the stories. You could hand out the graphic organizers at the beginning of reading and have students add to them as you read through the book. Or, you could wait until you've finished reading. Depending on the level of your students, you could have them list words to describe the characters on a sheet of paper. They could then use that when filling out these diagrams. A great extension to this activity would be if you want students to write a paragraph comparing the two characters. The graphic organizer would help them organize their thoughts into a good paragraph. One of the 3rd grade Reading for Literature standards is comparing two different stories written by the same author. E.B. White is a great author for this age group, and Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little are two great stories to compare.
