Valentine’s Day is full of romantic thoughts and ideas. It is also rich in reds, pinks, and bright whites, which helps to brighten up the dull winter season, before spring brings new life. This Valentines Day Social Skills Activities Worksheet was created to celebrate the season as well as give teachers and homeschoolers something unique to do to practice social emotional learning, facial recognition, and fine motor skills. This is a short one-page activity that doesn’t require any writing, though reading is involved if it is completed independently. Teachers and parents can also read the words aloud to students who aren’t reading yet. Of course, read aloud activities are always good for developing listening skills as well. Adorable clip art from one of my favorite clip artists was used to make reading the facial expressions more enjoyable. Happy, sad, scared, angry, silly, worried, surprised are the emotions identified in the activity, with eight (8) different scenarios for students to consider. One page worksheet plus one page answer key is included. Of course, answers are open to interpretation as well. My "Life of Saint Valentine" activity pack is designed to make it easy to teach students of all ages about the life of St. Valentine. My specific recommended age range is pre-k through 5th grade, though special education students of all ages will benefit as well. Of course, many older children enjoy coloring, so the coloring sheets can be used as a way to make the day more interesting, as a reward, or as a way to occupy busy minds after completing required assignments. Pre-readers will be able to participate by coloring the pages and can be guided by the teacher who can read the sentences and ask the questions verbally while the pre-reader is coloring the images on each page. Students who are reading and writing, or learning to read and write, will get further practice in developing their reading and writing skills. Students who are able will also be required to research the life of Saint Valentine. Students will learn about multiple historical Valentine persons, including one female. Students will not only develop research skills, but critical thinking skills as well, because many of the questions require them to think outside the box. Included in this activities pack: Challenging Crossword Puzzle with answer key included Not too easy Word Search with answer key included. 10 Coloring Pages, each with a question that can be answered verbally or in writing. Space is given for writing, or a separate sheet of paper may be used, depending on teacher preference. A Word Scramble Worksheet - Word Bank is included to help simplify if needed. Teacher could remove the word bank if they want to make it more challenging. Answer key is included. 5 Short Answer writing prompts as well as one 1-2 paragraph writing assignment. Students are asked to choose one of the Valentines to do further research. Reference/Resources page to help with research. While students are working on these activities, they will be increasing vocabulary because many of the words may be unfamiliar to them. Each page is bordered with a beautiful Valentines Day theme. This set of Winter-themed learning activities is the perfect addition to your ELA curriculum. Your kiddos in Pre-K, TK, kindergarten, and grade 1 will benefit from the variety of activities this product offers. Within the pages you will find 16 flashcards with pictures and their corresponding word labels, 7 worksheets, 2 hands-on learning games, and 1 additional learning game in a Power Point format. Not only will these learning tools help strengthen vocabulary, but they’ll also give your pre-readers the opportunity to practice the concepts of identifying uppercase and lowercase letters and phonemic awareness. The 16 Winter-themed words are used throughout each activity and focus on holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and Valentine’s Day. There are also terms that relate directly to the season of Winter such as hibernation, penguins, and snowflakes. Along with the aforementioned areas of learning, your learners will also practice fundamental fine motor skills with writing letters, cutting, gluing, and manipulating clothes pins. The flashcards and 2 hands-on learning games are available in both a color version and a black & white version. Most of the worksheets are also available in both versions. The 25 Power Point slides were created in a full-color version to entice and engage your learners. While the Power Point activity was designed as a whole class learning game, the 2 additional games are wonderful individual or small learning group activities. The 7 worksheets can be used in a variety of ways including large or small groups, individually, or a homework assignment. For your convenience, an answer key is provided for all worksheets. PAGES 1-3: Sixteen flashcards with pictures and word labels PAGE 4: learners will circle one of two letters that show the beginning sound of the winter picture. PAGE 5: learners will draw lines matching the beginning sound of a winter picture and its letter partner. Valentine's Day Beginning Sound Clip Cards

These phonics clip cards for beginning sound make a wonderful Valentine's Day fine motor literacy center for preschoolers and kindergartners. Students will gain practice in recognizing the beginning sounds of words as well as identifying beginning blends and digraphs using real photographic images. What is included: There are 18 beginning sound cards There are 1 beginning digraph cards There are 1 beginning trigraph cards The cards are differentiated for students who need more support in figuring out the beginning sound of each picture. One set includes the word typed out with the beginning sound, blend or digraph missing for the student to identify. The other set just has the real picture for the student to identify its beginning sounds. How to Use: Students will look at the picture on each clip card and say the word that is represented by the picture. The student will then use a clip to mark the correct beginning sound, beginning blend or beginning digraph. Once completed, the beginning sound clip cards and clips can be easily stored inside a task box. When to Use: Literacy Center - The teacher can place the clip cards and clips in a literacy center for students to complete independently or with a partner. Small Group Activity - The teacher can pull aside small groups of students who need more practice identifying beginning sounds. Morning Tubs or Baskets - The cards and clips can be placed inside a morning bin for students to work on as their classmates arrive to class. I love to make printable greeting cards and bookmarks. Not only are they fun for kids to do but can be used to practice and build useful and important skills. For example, these cute Valentines Day cards with matching envelope template (5 x 7 finished size): Require students to cut out the cards and envelope template in order to create a finished card with a matching envelope. Cutting with scissors builds fine motor skills. When students fold the cards correctly as well as paste the envelope template correctly, they are developing (especially with the envelope template) problem solving skills in addition to the fine motor skills practice. Deciding who to give the card, writing out a greeting to the chosen person, and addressing the envelope will not only build social skills, but life skills that will always be needed throughout adulthood. Properly addressing the card and outside envelope will require proper capitalization and grammar and will develop handwriting skills as well. Students can work on their cards as a group. Teachers can create a special center for this project. Cards are blank on the inside so that students can decide what they want to say. They can also draw pictures if they are not reading or writing letters yet. The cards are not age specific. They can be created with pre-readers all the way up to adulthood. There are six (6) different foldable, 5 x 7-inch cards with the following sayings: All you need is Jesus Jesus loves you Be my valentine I love you Two of the cards contain a picture without a saying. These Valentine's Day themed number cards are perfect for students who are learning with a Valentine's Day theme. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the letters of the number. What is Included: This set includes one number card and one number word card for all numbers up to 20. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the numbers to their number words. Attach a paper clip to a number card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the numbers for a fun fishing game. Use a sand or salt tray for students to practice writing the numbers or number words on each card. Have students find the numbers that you have hidden around the room for a fun number hunt.
