Use these word cards to practice finding and sounding out letters within words. These create a great bridge activity from letter sounds to sounding out simple words. Your students get to have a hands on experience with cutting out cards and using their finger to slide across the arrow while sounding out the word. These letter word cards are so much fun to use while learning and practicing letter sounds and letters within words! There are so many ways you could use these word cards in your classroom. The sky is the limit! How to Use This: Cut out the word cards. Then review the cards as individuals, in pairs, or as a class. Follow the arrow withy our finger to help you remember which direction to sound out the letters. Help your students sound out the words and find the focus letter within the words. Not all the letters come at the beginning of the word, so this is slightly harder than some alphabet activities. This hands on activity is great for paired work, independent work, a center, early finishers, or as homework. If you are using a letter of the week type of approach, these printables will fit right in! You can use them while teaching children at home, small homeschool or co-op groups, or a large preschool or kindergarten class. Need an activity for practicing number bonds that will be fun and engaging? These no-prep, self checking cut and paste math puzzles are great for helping students to focus on addition as they do number bonds for number 23. Preparation: Just print and go! There are 2 pages for each number – The main worksheet and a page with puzzle pieces that need to be cut out and pasted on the worksheet. Each student will need a copy of both pages. There is also a “Back of Puzzle Pieces” page. This needs to be printed on the reverse side of all puzzle pieces pages. There are 2 printing options – colour or black and white You can also mix and match the colour and black and white pages. For example, you could print only the puzzle pieces in colour and the worksheet in black and white if you wish. These worksheets are great for: Homework Centers Extra work for early finishers Extra practice for students struggling with Number Sense How Students Use These Worksheets: Students cut out the puzzle pieces and place the pieces with the pictures facing down, so that the numbers on the back are visible. Next they need to look at the worksheet. There are sums in the blocks that need to be completed. They must find the pieces that match the sums and paste the pieces on the correct squares, with the numbers facing downwards and the picture facing upwards. Ignite your students interest in narrative nonfiction, a genre many of them might not appreciate. The 47-page comprehensive standards-aligned genre study: Narrative Nonfiction Genre Study Book Report Project for Middle School provides you with everything you need to teach an engaging unit on creative nonfiction, including Objectives and Learning Targets. Well-written narrative nonfiction or creative nonfiction is not only just as enjoyable as fiction, but many students discover that they enjoy narrative nonfiction more than fiction. For students for whom reading is not a go-to activity, reading creative nonfiction might just be the answer for them. Fortunately, there are many excellent narrative nonfiction books available for our students at all grade levels. They run the gamut of science, history, adventure, crime, travel, space, the ocean, rainforests, climate change. Many fiction readers groan when I first introduce this project, but once they find the book that pulls them in, they develop a whole new appreciation for this genre. This 4-5 week unit (including reading a narrative nonfiction book)offers a number of opportunities for students to work alone, in partners, and in small groups as they learn how to complete the writing tasks for this project. The project includes 3 required writing tasks: a book review, a text-to-world connection, and a newspaper article. They then can choose 4 of the remaining 7 tasks to complete. (You can easily modify this to meet your students’ needs and depending on the time you would like to spend on this project.) I have provided 5 lesson plans for this project, 14 handouts, including graphic organizers, a self-evaluation, grading guidelines, and 5 rubrics.
