Phonics Strategies for 2nd Graders - Part 1 by Phonics Advantage
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Phonics, Literature, Poetry, Grade 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Phonics Strategies for 2nd Graders is a program that equips students with decoding tools (phonograms, blends, phonics rules, pronunciation rules, word endings and syllable dividing examples) to enable students to become successful, independent readers. Phonics Strategies makes learning to read fun by using diversification to hold the student’s interest with hands-on activities, listening skills, phonics games, phonics poems, flipbooks, and worksheets. Part 1 of Phonics Strategies for 2nd Graders is a 221-page PDF that focuses on 25 Vc phonograms (chunks) and words ending in -le syllables (ble, ple, dle, tle, etc.) Part 1 also introduces Silent E's and uses hands-on activities to experience how a short-vowel Vc chunk becomes a long-vowel phonogram when Silent E is added. There are ten Nonsense Word Challenge Sheets where students practice less common consonant blends and digraphs. The rule of doubling the consonant of a Vc chunk when adding a word ending beginning with a vowel is emphasized throughout the units through examples and worksheets. Students learn how recognizing Vc chunks can help them to divide longer words into syllables. The PDF zip-file includes 5 Chunk Reviews that can be used as assessment tools; Mentor Notes, tips and suggestions; 5 Phonogram Memory/Match Games; 5 Parent Letters (for using materials as homework); Pronunciation Rules (Soft C, Double Vowels, ir-er-ur); Answer Keys; and Listening Skills challenges. The Phonics Strategies series are a mixture of serious phonics concepts and educational fun.

The Imitation Game (2014): Complete Movie Guide
Social Studies, ELA, History, History: World, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, Games, Activities
The Imitation Game is a 2014 historical drama film directed by Morten Tyldum and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, and Matthew Goode. The film is based on the real-life story of Alan Turing, a brilliant mathematician and cryptanalyst who played a crucial role in cracking the German Enigma code during World War II. The movie is divided into three different time periods, each with its own narrative thread. The first follows Turing's early years as a socially awkward and highly intelligent young man who struggles to fit in with his peers. The second thread focuses on Turing's work during World War II, where he is recruited by the British government to help break the Nazi's secret Enigma code, which they used to encrypt all of their military communications. Turing's team is made up of a diverse group of codebreakers, including Joan Clarke, a brilliant mathematician who becomes Turing's closest friend and confidante. Despite initial setbacks and bureaucratic interference, Turing and his team eventually succeed in cracking the Enigma code, providing the Allies with vital intelligence that helps them win the war. The third and final thread of the film takes place in 1952, several years after the war has ended, when Turing is arrested and charged with homosexuality, which was then a crime in Britain. Despite his contributions to the war effort, Turing is persecuted and forced to undergo chemical castration as punishment. The film ends tragically, with Turing ultimately taking his own life. Overall, The Imitation Game is a gripping and moving tribute to one of the 20th century's most brilliant minds, whose achievements were overshadowed by his persecution and tragic end. This movie guide comes with a character reference guide, 22-questions, and a short introduction into the movie. This product also includes a completed teacher key. Ready to use!! The topics for this movie include: World War II, Battle of Britain, The Engima *** The movie also covers topics related to the LGBQT community. Thumbnail clipart credit: By PrincePadania

Speed Quizzing – Waves and Sound Unit

This activity will get your students out of their seats, moving around, and discussing the material. It is fully editable and requires very little preparation. Simply print, cut out the flash cards, and pass them out to students. Note. This resource can also be used as an excellent question bank as it contains 32 high-quality questions that you can use in any way you see fit. This activity contains 32 questions designed to test your students’ knowledge of the unit they are studying. The questions come directly from the lessons and cover the following topics: • Waves – An Introduction • Waves – Transmission, Reflection, and Interference • Standing Waves • Sound, Sound Energy, and Speed • Hearing and the Human Ear • The Doppler Effect and Supersonic Travel Each of the Speed Quizzes listed below can be found in my Speed Quizzes Growing bundle at a discount of at least 65%. Here’s how you implement them: 1. Provide each student with a flash card 2. Pair up students using the stand up/hands up/pair up method 3. Partner A reads the question to Partner B, who answers. Partner A praises if correct or coaches if incorrect. 4. Partners switch roles 5. Students thank each other and switch cards 6. Partners raise their hands to find a new partner 7. Repeat for a specified amount of time Alternate way to ensure each student gets a new partner each time: Divide students into groups A and B. Have every student pair up with someone from the other group (if there is an odd number of students you participate too!) 1) Do Speed Quizzing 2) Then have group A move to the right and group B stay still. 3) Do Speed Quizzing 4) Then have group B move to the left and group A stay still. Every student in group A will meet every student in group B, but students will not meet students in their own group (a clever way to keep apart students who should not be partnered for whatever reason). This activity can be used to: • Prompt meaningful student conversation • Review prior knowledge • Review new terms/problems after a unit • Gather student ideas • Remediate weak skills • Practice new skills Thank you for your interest in my products.
