Common Core Math Activities For Grade 4
Common Core, Grade 4, Worksheets & Printables
In fourth grade, the main focus of instruction should be on three key areas: mastering multi-digit multiplication and division with multi-digit dividends, understanding equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers, and recognizing properties of geometric shapes like parallel and perpendicular sides, specific angles, and symmetry. Students extend their comprehension of place value up to 1,000,000, grasping the relative magnitudes of numbers in different place positions. As they work on multiplying multi-digit whole numbers, students use their knowledge of different multiplication models like equal-sized groups, arrays, and area models, along with concepts like place value and the distributive property, to create, talk about, and implement efficient, precise, and adaptable strategies for finding products. Students gain knowledge of how fractions are equal to each other and how to perform operations with fractions. They understand that it is possible for two fractions to be equal (e.g., 15/9 = 5/3), and they create techniques for creating and identifying equivalent fractions.

Find Target Number with Math Operations
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Division, Multiplication, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, Activities
Find Target Number with Math Operations Find Target Number with Math Operations is a teaching tool designed to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills amongst students. This resource, suitable for grades 1 through 4, focuses on the core mathematical operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The teaching aid consists of two pages where learners explore how to arrive at a target number using the provided numbers. The task involves applying different math operations – adding (+), subtracting (-), multiplying (×) or dividing (÷). Therefore providing multiple pathways of exploration to demonstrate their mathematical understanding. In each activity, there are five numbers for each question. The students then create a solution that equals the 'Target Number'. An engaging aspect here is that not all five numbers are required concurrently; students can choose their preferred numbers but use them only once. At the end of each activity or successful solution tabulation, learners will document calculations in the 'Working Out Box'. Promoting transparency in calculating methods and fostering accountability among participants as they become more exploratory in their problem-solving approach. Fully editable, hence its applications extend beyond formal classroom settings – perfect for homeschooling sessions or as an assignment aimed at reinforcing what was covered during class hours. This resource comes in an accessible zip file format making it tangible across different platforms whether printed out as individual worksheets or displayed digitally on interactive whiteboards during full-class instructions. Find Target Number with Math Operations offers an immersive way for students to practice and enhance their knowledge base across four key arithmetic operations while fostering critical thinking skills integral for continuous academic development.

Extreme Weather Writing Challenge | Types, Effects & Resilience
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Extreme weather is a topic many learners are fascinated by, but the effects of these events can make for a daunting lesson. Keep an eye out for the helpers (as Mr. Rogers would say), as learners craft their own stories of weather events followed by images of community resilience. Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy learning about space and demonstrating their knowledge of it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. *Note, some learners may require a basic explanation of what stocks, investments, and savings accounts are. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
