Skills covered are aligned with common core in both language arts and social studies (specifically) vocabulary, comprehension, inferencing, locating and labeling areas on a map, letter writing, writing process, web searching and quizzing, and word processing.

The list of authors included has been updated as of March 2020, and all authors on the list are currently living, as well as most have a strong Twitter presence to follow.

A STEM Challenge has been added to this unit, allowing a cross-over of literature and STEM. Students are asked to build a tower that will help Leigh keep his lunch safe from the lunch thief. Teacher notes are provided for how it could be conducted in the classroom, but, during this time, it could also be done as experiential learning at home.
