OR: Phonics Workbook Reading Made Simple
Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Spelling, Kindergarten, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Reading Made Simple — Free OR Phonics Workbook These little workbooks have been a quiet favourite with families using Reading Made Simple for some time now. Each one focuses on a single sound and prints on just one sheet of A4 paper — double-sided, folded in half to make a neat A5 booklet that children can hold and work through at their own pace. They are entirely optional. The phonics programme works perfectly well without them, but many parents and teachers find them a useful companion — either as structured practice or simply as a source of ideas to dip into when needed. Tested by real children: One 5-year-old user is quoted as having said, 'The worksheet is the best bit of my lessons!' Other parents have noted that their child likes the worksheet because 'they think it is easy'. When learning is broken down into small, achievable steps, with no curve balls to throw them off track, every child can say, 'I can read!' When I hear these reviews, I know that I have succeeded in my aim to write a phonics curriculum that can help children of all abilities learn to read and spell. These little workbooks are just one small part of what there is to offer. Please do check out the website for more information. Each workbook offers a gentle mix of activities built around the target sound. Children will read short passages that practise the new sound alongside words from sounds already taught, track and identify the sound within words to support both reading and spelling, practise spelling and sentence writing, and work through simple editing exercises where they spot and correct mistakes. These small editing tasks are particularly worthwhile — they encourage children to look carefully at words rather than guessing from context. The workbooks are particularly well-suited to younger children just beginning their phonics journey, and to older children with special educational needs who are still building their foundational reading and spelling skills. That said, they will not suit every child. Some will find them too long, others too straightforward. Use your own judgement — pick the activities that fit, leave the rest, or set them aside entirely. There is no obligation and no right or wrong way to use them. To print: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Fold in half to create your A5 booklet. The answer page at the back is optional. One sheet of paper. One sound. Everything a child needs to practise, consolidate and grow in confidence.

Social Studies, History, History: World, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
In 2010, History's 12-hour series `America the Story of Us' illustrated how technology advanced human progress throughout American history. This follow-up series takes it a step further by expanding beyond America and taking a look at how technology has evolved throughout the world. The series covers key events that were turning points in the human journey in transitioning from being hunter-gatherers to global citizens, including how people's lives in one part of the world are affected by events elsewhere. Among the topics covered are surviving the Ice Age, discovering farming techniques, the invention of movable type, creating the Industrial Revolution and exploring space. Actor Josh Brolin narrates. Gold from Africa kickstarts the rebirth of Europe. Money flows into Venice–creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs willing to take risks. In China, a new weapon–the gun–allows a peasant uprising to unify the country. Chinese innovations inspire Europe–leading to the printing press. Millions of books are printed. One of them will inspire a journey to the New World. America beckons. These teacher-generated questions are designed to help students focus in on key information during the video. Book Browse: Teach Your Students How to Choose a Book to Read
ELA, Literature, Reading, Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Activities
The purpose of this 6-page lesson, Book Browse: Teach Your Students How to Choose a Book to Read is to teach students in grades 4 through 9 how to browse for a book to read. Many of our students are not sure how to choose a book to read. They might not have many books in their homes or they might not go to a library or bookstore. We have to teach our students how to browse a book to see if they might want to read it. I take my students to our school media center /library once every five or six weeks, and we always book browse. Sometimes we browse a specific genre, such as Historical Fiction or Narrative Nonfiction. Other times it might be Newbury Awards or bestsellers. Students enjoy this activity, and over time, they feel very comfortable browsing for books on their own.Every time we go to the library after this first time, students ask if we can do a book browse. Some teachers might think it’s a waste of a period, but I am an avid book browser at the library and in bookstores, and I have found many authors that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t browsed. The structure that this lesson provides is very useful if you’re doing a genre study or a literature circle. But even if you just want your students to have a book of no particular genre, giving them choices within a somewhat limited framework (rather than having them wander among the shelves looking or pretending to look), helps them make informed choices and gives them some agency at the same time. This activity offers students the opportunity to find books they might enjoy. Although this lesson is specifically designed for a school library, if you have an extensive classroom library, you can easily book browse in your classroom. I have produced a number of book reports that you might be interested in. Plan And Write Lots Of Stories: Pack 2 (9-13 years)
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grade 4, 5, 6,
Plan And Write Lots Of Stories: Pack 2 (9-13 years) Plan And Write Lots Of Stories: Pack 2 (9-13 years) is a tailored teaching resource perfect for educators catering to students in grades 4 through 6. It extensively covers the Language Arts and specifically enhances creative writing skills, making it an indispensable tool for public school teachers as well as homeschoolers. This pack presents three distinct sets: 'The Barbecue' 'The Loch Ness Monster' 'Fears.' Each set is carefully designed to not only instill the importance of planning in story writing but also to facilitate students' understanding of how a title can be built upon to craft a clear and engaging narrative. Students are encouraged to engage with an example story framework within each set. They're asked to identify key elements such as characters, setting, and plot. This in-depth analysis culminates with them identifying the climax of the story which further helps them understand narrative structure. The Writing Process: Building on this analytic foundation, students then plan their own story - beginning with creating a similar outline that includes characters, settings, plot, climax, and resolution. After laying this groundwork, they write their own version of the initially provided model stories which they subsequently read aloud – helping build both written and verbal communication skills.
