Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Game: A to H
Common Core, ELA, Phonics, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Toddler, Games, Activities, Centers
The Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Game is a simple activity for those just starting to learn the initial/beginning sounds. This game provides 2 activities in one, either matching letters (initial sounds) to pictures or pictures to letters (initial sounds). For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /h/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Choose either pictures or sounds to be the baseboard (you can always print it twice and play it both ways and this is recommended if the child needs extra practice). Cut up the boards not chosen as baseboards into individual cards. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Scatter the cards (letter or picture as you have chosen) on the table face down. Players take turns to choose a card. The sound should be said - either the initial sound of the picture or the sound the letter stands for. A match should be attempted with the letters/pictures on the player's board. If a match is made, the card is placed on the corresponding square. If not, the card is returned, face down, to the table. The winner is the player who completes his/her board first. Teaching tips for the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Do give support as needed so that the child feels successful. We need the child to end the game feeling s/he can do this. Emphasise the letter/beginning sounds of words as much as you can. What is included in the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game? 2 Baseboards in both colour and black and white 2 Letter Cards

Light Decodable Reading Book
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,
A first factual short phonic reader about LIGHT for those beginning to read more fluently with phonics. This book is part of the Reading Made Simple Reading Scheme introducing basic digraphs. They follow on from our previous sets of: CVC Reading Books with matching workbooks Consonant Blends Reading Books with matching workbooks Level 1 Red Books. with matching workbooks This book may contain words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e and u-e, ai, ea, oa and IGH. It can be enjoyed by any child who knows these phonic sounds. Please note: This book acknowledges God as the Creator. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. What is included? 1 PDF Print as a booklet Flip on the short edge

CVC Reading Book 4
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,
CVC Reading Book 4 CVC Reading Book 4 is the fourth in a 16-book series designed to help beginning readers sound out simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. Using a systematic, phonetic approach, the CVC Reading Books introduce common CVC word families in a strategic sequence to develop decoding, reading fluency, and confidence. Book 4 focuses on CVC words with short vowel sounds like "cat," "log," and "top." The story features farmer Tom, his family, and his animals. Minimal pictures allow young readers to gain meaning from the text instead of guessing. Only 5 key sight words are gradually introduced. These decodable readers work well with any phonics program. Special needs, ESL/EFL learners, and struggling readers often benefit from the methodical phonics instruction. The books have been tested with K-1 students, especially boys who tend to prefer the farm theme. Teachers use them whole group, small group, or as homework to supplement phonics lessons.

Final NK Blend Worksheet: Phonemic Awareness activities
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This final blend _NK fun, Find and Color worksheet for final blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with final consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. This activity is a great phonemic awareness activity. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the final _NK blend. What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that end with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of final blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the end of a word, easily. Some children find final blends easier than initial blends as they can sound out the first three sounds, and simply add a fourth: h-a-n: han-d. I call /n/ 'naughty' 'n' as he likes to hide in words: children are apt to miss out the nasal sound and spell hand as 'had'. I then ask them to sound back what they have written and we laugh. Often they can quickly insert the missing letter, having had plenty of practice aurally, such as this sheet affords. However all pupils need practice, some more than others. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the end of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each final blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the final blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

Colour Bluebells
Creative Arts, Art, Science, Life Sciences, Nature & Plants, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Here is a picture of Bluebells for children to colour this spring! Who is this colouring picture of Bluebells for? Anybody. Older children will extend the activity further than younger ones, Uses for these colouring sheets Use to help children learn the name of the Bluebell and to recognise them. Use as part of a science lesson Use for a basis for collage work Paint or colour. Use to make greetings cards It is best if children colour the Bluebells picture following close observation, or from reference books, or after having looked at Bluebells in real life. Do remind children not to pick them! What is included in the pack? 1 sheet to be coloured 1 sheet giving an example of how the Bluebells could be coloured. The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Daffodil picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super made into a spring greeting card of all kinds. But it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects - such as Bluebells, which are so common in springtime, to teach much about the natural world? Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Bluebell: ask questions: Where are the petals? What is this part called? Colouring a picture of Bluebell can also help children to become familiar with the particular characteristics of a flower - its shape, colour, and special features, for example.

CVC Reading Book 15
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Pre-Reading, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,
A phonic CVC Words Reading Book for young/SEN/ESL readers. This is the last of 16 phonic reading books to support the blending of CVC words with a short vowel sound, suitable for those who just beginning to read with phonics. Find the complete series here: https://teachsimple.com/product/cvc-short-vowel-phonic-reading-books-fully-decodable These first phonic readers are suitable for use with all phonic programmes. These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/tricky) words a, is, the, of, which are introduced only gradually. These short words should be learned on a flashcard first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The book s begins with just a few words being introduced. For example, this book CVC Reading Book 15 uses the words Jiff, off, mess, fuss, of. The whole scope and sequence is included in the pack for your reference. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Due to the systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL learners. 1 PDF file 12 Pages A5 Print as a booklet
