The concept of nonfiction can be very abstract, making it difficult to teach the concept. These worksheets look at the nonfiction text feature; table of contents. Within these worksheets are two activities that are designed to help students understand the concept table of contents. This download includes a printable worksheet with two activities, a printable checklist with a checklist for individual students and for the class and finally an answer sheet with answers to the activities. The objectives of these worksheets is to deepen the understanding of exactly what a table of contents is and what can be found on a table of contents. The first activity encourages students to identify the page numbers as this is an important element found in a table of contents, the second activity has two variations, the first variation is writing the headings in the correct order in the space provided and the second variation is cutting and pasting the headings in the correct order in the space provided. These activities are great for grade 1,2 and 3 and can be used as an introduction, recap, support or enrichment. Simply print the activity and hand out students. This 'ch, sh, th, ng PowerPoint is a taught lesson especially suitable for those who have special needs or need a slower pace. Special features of the PowerPoint lesson Totally phonetic No guessing! REAL READING! These lessons are intended to be watched with a teacher. These lessons conform to the standards of the phonics component of the UK Gov. National Curriculum for English. This PowerPoint is one of a series, teaching phonics systematically, to enable every child to succeed. No words are introduced that cannot be sounded out, except common the sight words. It does however presume that the child can blend both CVC words and consonant blend words with a short vowel sound, like pond. These have been taught in previous lessons. There are no distractions for the special needs child to have to 'block out' before s/he can learn - no jingly music, no comic pictures. Nothing moves quickly. Everything is explained very simply. Sound buttons are provided for use if necessary. What is included in/with the sh, ch, th, ng PowerPoint? This 'ck' PowerPoint is a narrated lesson. The PowerPoint format means that you can go at a pace suitable for your pupils. It is just like having your own phonics teacher! How can the sh, ch, th, ng PowerPoint be used? It can be used in multiple ways: It can either be used by the child, with support from an adult, as well as to give the parents a feel for what is necessary - i.e., for training purposes.
