Math, Decimals, Grade 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Teacher Tools, Presentations
Bring real-world problem solving into your elementary classroom math lessons with this book order proposal project for grades 3-5. Students will apply decimal skills as they develop a proposal to spend a classroom budget on new library books. This 10-page packet outlines a motivating 3-5 day project aligned to Common Core math standards with a focus on the Standards for Mathematical Practice. It includes step-by-step instructions, a book order form, and a rubric for proposal evaluation by peers or the teacher. Differentiation allows all learners to participate, making this an engaging activity for whole-class or GATE use. Rather than a worksheet, guide students through an authentic learning experience that helps them master decimals through meaningful decisions about classroom library improvements. This standards-based unit follows the GANAG model for 21st century skill building.

Read decimal numbers and write decimal numbers in word or expanded form. Use this with 5th grade students and corresponds to Common Core Standard 5.NBT.3.a This PowerPoint contains 40 decimal numbers. The whole number part or the numbers range from 0 to 99,999 and the decimal parts range from 0 to 0.999. Use this in any number of ways. The following are just some examples. 1. Call on students individually to read the numerals. 2. Have the class read the numerals together. 3. Have students write the number in word or expanded form either on paper or individual white boards. 4. Put students in pairs at a center and have them to take turns reading the numerals to each other or have them write the numbers in word or expanded form and then compare their answers. 5. Have a number shown as students enter your class as a starting activity. I am sure you can think of other ways to use the slides. You can take time during class and/or use as a filler when you have a few minutes. The keys are at the end and are color coded for groups of 10 numbers. You can edit the slides to fit your needs.
