This resource contains everything you need to practice the long e sound. First of all, there is a vocabulary list with 20 long e sound words. You can then test these words with the included vocabulary test. You can also play a variety of vocab games with the included flash cards. Just print them, laminate them, and cut them out. You can decide to use the ones with sharp corners or rounded corners. Games to play could be memory for example. There is also a digital file that can be used to introduce these words. Just launch the PDF file on a computer and flick through the pages. Usually students find this more engaging then the printed out cards. If you really want to have some fun, play the BINGO game. A bunch of different BINGO cards are included in this resource. You can also write wome words down on the blank card yourself.

Initial Sounds Screening Test: Phonic Test

Initial sounds Phonics Test This is a fun test to find out whether children can hear the initial, or beginning sound of words, or not. The test requires the teacher to ask: What sound does _____ begin with? The child has bright colourful pictures on each of the three pages and plenty of space to record his/her answer next to each picture. Who is the Initial Sounds Phonics Test for? This test is for anyone who teaches the initial sounds to children, be that Pre-K, K, ESL, EFL, Private tutors, home educators, or parents at home. Full instructions as to how to administer the test are provided, including solutions in case of misidentification of pictures. Format: The test has a bright cover, with space for the child’s name. it also includes a quick reference chart so that the teacher can quickly see which sounds a child does not yet know. Instructions and rationale: Print as a booklet (A3 paper required), or print the A4 pages individually and staple them together. Full instructions are included. Testing has got a bad name, but it is crucial that every teacher informally tests all of their pupils regularly to make sure that every child is ready for the next step. If we wish children to succeed in learning to read and spell with phonics, then we must check this very first skill thoroughly. Children will not think it is a test, with its bright pictures and appealing layout. Testing tips: Make sure every child can hear the initial sounds before they start to blend. Help every child succeed in reading! During the test, speak clearly and repeat a word as often as needed. Observation of the child's response is as important as what the child records. Was there any hesitation? Did the child make any corrections? How confident did the child appear?
