Discrete or Continuous Linear Relationships 7th 8th Algebra

Discrete or Continuous Linear Relationships 7th 8th Algebra
Math, Algebra, Graphing, Grade 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Word Problems

Are you searching for a complete math lesson to teach your middle school students in 7th or 8th grade algebra class about the two different kinds of linear relationships- discrete & continuous ? Do you want to make it clear how equations along with tables of values and simple graphs can be used to easily model realistic, everyday situations including time, temperature, money, and more? This discrete and continuous linear relationship lesson has you covered! In the four pages of included handouts & worksheets your algebra students will: Learn the key vocabulary terms: linear relation, discrete linear relations, continuous linear relations, independent variables, and dependent variables. Determine the independent versus dependent variables in 10 real-world scenarios. Sort the ten real-world scenarios into discrete versus continuous linear relationships. Complete the included tables of values, write equations to represent real-world situations, and graph the data from two word problems (using integers on a coordinate plane with four quadrants). Self-assess their skills from this lesson. Grades to Use With: This algebra lesson is specially designed for students in 7th grade or 8th grade who are learning all about linear relationships including graphs, tables of values, and equations using two variables: independent & dependent. It could be used in high school math classes as a review or in special education settings where appropriate. What's Included: 6-Page PDF: Ready to Print and Use! Title Page Handout: to explain Discrete and Continuous Linear Relationships Discrete vs Continuous Linear Relationship Sorting Task (with Independent and Dependent Variables) 2 Worksheets of real-world scenarios with tables, graphs, and equations Complete Answer Key included: no guesswork! Independent & Dependent Variables – Hockey Math Lesson

Independent & Dependent Variables – Hockey Math Lesson
Math, Algebra, Graphing, Grade 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets

Here's a ready-to-go lesson to help show your students how learning about independent and dependent variables in grade 6 math can be helpful in the real world! This lesson is all about a hockey game and the mathematical relationships that can be found there. Students are given 4 scenarios about making ice, letting in fans, collecting money for 50/50 tickets, and the profits the arena makes. For each situation, they have to complete a table of values with missing entries, graph the relationship on the provided graph (labels and scales are already filled in), create an equation with the two provided variables, and answer one or two questions. The questions increase in difficulty throughout the assignment. You could use this lesson in several ways. After teaching your students the basic vocabulary and concepts from your math program, you could cut the four scenarios up and use them as task cards or stations. Or, you could assign one problem each to small groups. Or, you could give each student the entire double-sided worksheet. This could even be used as an assessment ! What's included: 4 Page PDF: Title and Instruction Page 2 Pages of Student Questions Complete Answer Key Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed for students in 6th Grade who are mastering the standard 6EE.C.9. However, it could also be a great review for students in 7th or 8th grades or it could be used in high school special education classes.
