A Boy Called Bat, by Elana K. Arnold, is a warm story about a boy in Grade 3, with high-functioning autism, who falls in love with a stray baby skunk, that was brought home by his veterinarian mom.

Main Character

The story follows Bixby Alexander Tam, nicknamed Bat, a third grader who has autism. Bat sees and experiences the world differently from many kids, which sometimes makes school and social situations challenging. However, he is also very caring, clever, and passionate about animals.

After reading each chapter, independently or as a read aloud, students will have the opportunity to complete questions to ensure understanding of the text.
