Adding and subtracting fractions mixed numbers unlike denominators
About This Product
This pdf goes trough adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers. There are 4 pages of theory, 12 pages of practice (171 tasks) and 13 pages of answers. This is designed for 5th grade math students, but can be used also with a bit older students.
The first section explains addition and subtraction with fractions. At first, we recall terms numerator and denominator and remind students that in order to add or subtract you have to have the same denominator.
The second section is about addition and subtraction with mixed numbers. Here, we also get
to know the concept of improper fractions.
The third section is about least common denominators. Here, we also introduce the sieve of Eratosthenes with 100 numbers. Then, we practise finding prime factors for some numbers between 20 and 200.
The section 4 is for practising all the concepts introduced in this resource in mixed order. There is also a table for investigating pairs of numbers, their factors, factors of LCD and finding the LCD.
Most answers have also intermediate steps visible, so it's easier for students to revisit their work themselves.
This material is suitable for independent work packet, but also for classroom work or homework.
