Affixes Task Cards for Prefixes and Suffixes

These Affixes Task Cards for Prefixes and Suffixes will keep students engaged as they read and understand multisyllable words that contain affixes. Each task card will feature one word with a prefix or a suffix (or both) for students to identify the different parts of the words and then, to write the definition of the word.

What Kind of Task Cards are in this Resource?

This resource contains 76 task cards for identifying prefixes within words, 64 task cards for for identifying suffixes within words, as well as 16 task cards for identifying both a prefix and a suffix within a word. This resource also contains a recording page for students to record answers on. There are four task cards to each printed page.

These task cards work well in the following types of activities:

• Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these task cards for extra practice.

• Small Group Activity - Teachers can use these task cards to target small groups of students who need more practice.

• Literacy Center - Students can practice identifying prefixes and suffixes individually or with a partner in a literacy center.

• Tasks Box Activity - These task cards fit well in tasks boxes making literacy centers easy to set up and put away.

With the wide variety of words, students can gain ample practice with identifying words with prefixes and suffixes and practice writing their definition. Students can work independently or with a partner to complete these cards.
