Causes of the American Revolution word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this causes of the American Revolution puzzle set for my 4th graders during our social studies unit. The kids had heard of the Revolution but had no idea why the colonists were angry or what "no taxation without representation" meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like tax, stamp act, tea act, intolerable acts, representation, parliament, protest, boycott, Boston Tea Party, liberty, unfair, colonist, Britain, king, and revolution. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the causes finally make sense.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Boston Tea Party was a protest or destruction of property. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple tea chest and scroll drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers explain what "no taxation without representation" means on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
