Learning objectives

Define climate as the long-term weather pattern of a region and name the five climate types covered: dry, tropical, temperate, continental, and polar.
Match each climate type to example regions, plants, and animal adaptations, such as camels in dry climates or polar bears in polar climates.
Build a labeled Climate Disk craft that visually represents the five climate zones using color-coded wedges.

Teaching tips

Complete the exit ticket as a group before starting the project, using the teacher's edition on page 10 to check understanding first.
Offer the Writing Background in place of the Colored Background when printing in black and white, since the guide notes it is the more printer-friendly option.
Laminate the Recording Sheet and use playdough instead of coloring utensils for a hands-on, reusable alternative, as the supplies list suggests.
