Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Locate Ukraine and identify its bordering countries and bodies of water

  • Recall key demographic and government facts about Ukraine, such as its capital and currency

  • Pronounce and use five basic Ukrainian greeting phrases

Teaching tips

  • Use the greeting slide as a short warm-up activity, having students practice the five Ukrainian phrases aloud before moving into the country facts

  • Pair the two-slide history timeline with a simple sequencing task, since the events are already presented in chronological order and could be turned into a cut-and-order exercise

  • Point out the pie chart on the economy slide explicitly, since it presents sector data visually rather than as a written percentage list

Skills covered

  • Map and location skills — students identify Ukraine's position in Eastern Europe and its six bordering countries and two bordering seas.

  • Data extraction from slides — students read a quick-facts slide and a sector pie chart to answer questions about population, government, currency, and economy.

  • Basic foreign-language vocabulary — students learn to read and pronounce five Ukrainian greeting phrases written in Cyrillic script.
