About this resource
What's inside this resource
Second graders practice everyday personal health habits across five short lessons: caring for hands and teeth, adding food variety and water, balancing movement with rest and sleep, naming feelings and asking a trusted adult for help, and setting a small goal. Each lesson page opens with a brief Learn box, then gives three tasks, such as putting handwashing steps in order, adding a fruit and a vegetable to a meal, or helping a character named Ari choose a safe action after a block tower falls.
A practice page asks students to try their goal three times and keep a short record of what happened and what help they used, or to work from a short story about remembering a water cup. A five-task review page follows, scored with a 10-point guide. The teacher plan suggests five 15 to 20 minute lessons, lists the CDC, ADA, AAP and NIMH pages used for the health facts, and explains how to accept oral, pointed or scribed answers.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
How long are the lessons?
The teacher plan suggests five lessons of about 15 to 20 minutes, plus time for the practice page and the review page.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Pages 9 and 10 give sample answers for all 23 tasks and a 10-point scoring guide for the five review tasks.
Can students who are not yet writing independently take part?
Yes. Directions can be read aloud, and the answer guide accepts oral, pointed and scribed answers.
Does the food lesson involve tasting?
No. The teacher plan calls for no tasting or exercise tests, and the allergy task teaches students to ask a trusted adult before eating an unfamiliar snack.
