KS1 Science: Butterfly Lifecycle Activity Pack (Home-learning)

Learn about the butterfly lifecycle. These activities help to teach the animals and ‘Living things and their habitats' and ‘Animals’ section of the National Curriculum for Science for Y2.
Suitable for home-school use.

Read. Talk. Do.

Start by reading our KS1-friendly text together with your child/ren.
Learn about the butterfly/moth lifecycle, about caterpillars and four kinds of commonly seen butterflies. It can be blown up larger on a screen for all to see.

Then talk about what has been read using our helpful prompt questions.

Then do the activities.
These include

• Pictures of each stage of the life-cycle which can either be made into a life-cyle, for example on a plate, or made into a little book and the students can write about each stage.

• Learning the parts of a butterfly

• A butterfly poem to read and think about

• A life-like butterfly to colour - this helps children become better at butterfly ID

• A caterpillar to make.
