About This Product
Middle School Math Stations or Centers: Triangles, Area, Angles
This is an engaging teaching tool designed for middle school students and high school special education classrooms. It focuses on geometry concepts related to triangles: classification, types of angles, formula for area of a triangle, and calculating volume of a triangular prism.
How to Use:
Five ready-to-print math stations about the study of triangles. Put each station in a different area in the room.
Students can rotate through a set time intervals (every 15-20 minutes), or you can allow students to work at their own pace as long as no station gets too crowded.
Station 1: Students solve four word problems involving triangles.
Station 2: Students explore the relationships for interior angles in triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons.
Station 3: Students play a simple dice game to practice classifying types of triangles.
Station 4: Students work together to explain the rationale behind the area formula for triangles.
Station 5: Students calculate the surface area and volume of a house shape (rectangular and triangular prism compound shape).
The Learning Benefits of Math Stations:
Promote physical movement in the classroom
Foster cooperative learning among classmates by encouraging discussions based on these activities
Allow student choice and easy differentiation (some students may complete 2 or 3 centers, some may complete all 5)
Grades to Use With:
This lesson is designed for students in grades 5-7 as part of their geometry unit. It covers area of triangles, classification of triangles, interior angles of polygons, and volume and surface area of compound shapes including triangles. It could also be used in high school special education classrooms where applicable.
What's Included:
7 Page PDF with Title Page, 5 Stations, and Complete Answer Key
