Product description
From the author
In this SEL coloring page, students will name two goals and write them inside the flower in the center. Then they will write the steps to achieve those goals in the petals of the flowers. Finally, once the students complete a step toward their goal(s), they can color in the petal of that flower. This is a great worksheet to have students complete in January for their New Year's goals. It is also a good handout for the beginning of the year and students can write down their intentional goals for that grade for the year.

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
State a personal goal in writing, condensed enough to sit in the centre of a flower
Break that goal into separate achievable steps, one to a petal, rather than leaving it as a single intention
Track progress over time by colouring a petal each time one of those steps is completed
Teaching tips
The colouring here is a record rather than an art task, so keep the sheets in folders or a portfolio where students can return to them as steps are achieved
Model manageable steps for one goal first. Use as many petals as needed and continue elsewhere if a goal needs more space
Revisit the page on a set rhythm; a garden with no new colour since the last check is a prompt for a conversation about whether the steps were the right size
Skills covered
Goal setting — students write a goal of their own choosing into the centre of each flower on the page.
Breaking a goal into steps — the petals provide spaces for separate actions, since each petal takes one step toward achieving it.
Self-monitoring — the direction to colour in a petal each time a step is achieved turns the page into a running record of progress.
