If you are looking for an Intensive, Multisensory Reading, Spelling and Writing Program, you’ve found one here! This program is titled SOS to Encode! This is Part 3 of the program that will provide you and your students with everything you need to feel successful.

 

SOS to Encode! is a series of scaffolded, instructional programs designed to address the need for quality, research-based, convenient tools to improve writing ability. Each part of the series uses multisensory strategies to build encoding, phonics, and sentence editing skills.

 

SOS to Encode! provides:

Placement tests to determine exact instructional intensity needed for students and groups

Three levels of intensity and rates of instruction

Ongoing formative assessments to monitor progress

Multisensory phonics techniques

Multiple visual cues and mnemonic devices to support spelling and editing skills

Developmentally scaffolded phonics and encoding skills

 

SOS to Encode! Part 3 strategies:

The “COPS” self-monitoring strategy

      Capitalization, Overall Appearance, Punctuation, Spelling

      Visual Supports (e.g. bookmarks, posters, etc.)

Decoding strategies

      Segment and blend phonemes to write and to check spelling

Encoding strategies

      Modified Simultaneous Oral Spelling technique

          -Finger Tapping Phonemes

          -Table Pounding Sentences

          -Spelling Aloud

        

 

By the end of Part 3 of the SOS Program, students will be able to:

Encode, decode, and spell one-, two-, and three-syllable words that include:

      Three Syllable Types (Open, Closed, Silent e)

      Short & Long Vowels

      Consonant Digraphs (-ph, -ck)

      Final –ng and –nk

      Three Pronunciations of suffix –ed

      Vowel Pairs (oa, ai, ee, ay)

      Initial & Final Consonant Blends

Check writing for correct sentence mechanics following independent writing

Self-monitor writing during the writing process

Recognize and spell non-decodable words
