Product description
From the author
The Lemonade War is an amazing novel to use to teach entrepreneurship at an elemental level for your students! Spark their desire to learn about finance and business with this incredible novel study for The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. This novel study provides you with COMPLETE TEACHER PLANS for the novel including common core standards as well as comprehension questions AND fun & engaging skill based activities for your class.
Students will practice using context clues to determine unknown words and create a vocabulary list all their own. Students will learn how to find proof (use quotes from the novel) to prove character traits and answer comprehension questions in a structured style known as APE - answer, proof, explain (full directions included). They will also learn about figurative language, internal vs external conflict, dialogue and punctuation. Inferencing, discovering author's craft, comparing characters, symbolism, and asking questions are some of the other skills included in this pack. Not to mention students will have an example of starting a business from a similar aged child. They will learn key vocabulary as it relates to business & finance like "marketing, joint venture, total loss" and many more!
All lessons are easy to follow for a substitute so they are great plans to leave in a pinch. There is a digital and print version available so never worry that you can't make copies again! You will receive a .pdf file for printing and a link for the Google Slides digital version. Choose pacing to suit your class across the fourteen chapters.
52-page main PDF plus a separate one-page Google Slides access guide. Two copies of the main packet have the same lesson content with different final credits. Supply the novel separately; there is no complete answer key.

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Identify character traits for main characters and support them with direct textual evidence.
Answer text-dependent comprehension questions with quoted proof from the chapter.
Adapt a favorite scene from the novel into a script and perform it for the class.
Teaching tips
Use the running character-and-student chart (pages 2-3) to assign parts and read the novel aloud as a class play, as the resource's own teacher notes describe.
Model the text-evidence expectation with the worked chapter-1 example before students start answering comprehension questions independently.
Save the culminating script-and-performance project for after the 'Show Change' activity, since it asks students to draw on the character development they've already tracked.
Skills covered
Character analysis -- students identify character traits and supporting evidence for Jessie and Evan across multiple chapters.
Text-evidence comprehension -- students answer chapter questions and quote specific proof from the book to support text-dependent responses.
Character development tracking -- students compare an early character trait to a later one to show how a character changes over the novel.
