We are always looking for ways to teach our students new skills. Being able to tailor instruction to their learning styles is just one effective way to increase student engagement and set students up for success. Many of our students, from year to year, are visual and auditory learners. Most children (and even adults) can attest to their ability to better retain information that they have learned through music and song. Because of this, my resources seek to teach students skills through song. This particular resource is a1800 - 1849 History Song . This can be used in your social studies classroom with your elementary students. The Tuskegee Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen is a fifth-grade Level Q book, showcasing the role of Black aviators who fought during WWII after overcoming racism to serve our country. During four years (1942-1946), nearly 1,000 pilots completed training at Tuskegee Army Airfield in Tuskegee, Alabama. Many of these successful pilots went on to serve our country in other leadership capacities after the Civil War. Your students will see the instrumental role that First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt played in gathering support for their training. Students will also learn more about the Tuskegee Airmen’s role in fighting the Germans during this important time in history and how the Black airmen were finally able to be integrated into the military forces. What’s Included 4-page informational text with targeted vocabulary and concepts, and 2 pages of activities that reinforce critical thinking and language arts skills. The National Council for Social Studies’ key learning strands involving Culture and Change; Time, Continuity, and Change; and Power can be applied to this resource. Need a fun, quick, and engaging paper craft activity for the whole class or for individual students? There are two simply structured and easy paper craft kite projects for your learners to create and enjoy. You may use this craft project seasonally, right before school ends, or any time throughout the year. This is a low prep, printer friendly, and easy craft resource for your learners. Display the final project in your classroom or homeschooling space, or place in their portfolio. Your learners will also practice fine motor skills with scissor use and writing about their craft process or completed piece. Make sure they color and add more details to their project before trimming their craft pieces. Offer other craft materials such as pom poms, cardstock paper, and more. Students may work in a group or individually and share their final project with a show and tell activity. This is also a great project to add for sub days because of how little prep is involved. You may also use this for an independent activity since it is an easy and straight forward craft, but it will also work well as a group activity. What You Get: This is an Area and Perimeter Pirate Activity that was designed for upper elementary students who have learning or are reviewing this skill. This resource is a 9-page printable . How To Implement This Resource: You will print off the word problem cards and the answer “ships” and laminate them. You will also print off enough recording sheets for all students. There are 6 pirates that students will need to match to the correct ship. There are 2 cards per page. When students have been introduced to area and perimeter, they’ll be ready to complete this activity. Students will have fun solving the problems and matching the ships.
