The Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity is a simple activity for those just starting to learn the initial/beginning sounds. This game provides 2 activities in one, either an activity for one player, or a game for two or three players. For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /z/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity : Print the pages you require (colour or black and white). Cut along the lines to separate the letters from the pictures. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Activity Play as an activity for one player: Scatter the cards face up on the left and the letters cards, face up on the right-hand side of the player. The player should select a picture card, say the word and listen for the initial sound. The player should then find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Completed pairs are placed in front of the player. For two or three players: Scatter the pictures and letters as before, but face down. Players take turns to select a picture, say the initial sound and then attempt to find the matching letter that stands for that sound. Wrong attempts should be returned to the pools of cards. The players place their completed pairs in front of them and compete to find the most pairs before the cards run out.
