Transition & Inner‑Transition Elements Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable flashcard set I’ve used in chemistry classes, mostly with upper secondary students. The cards focus on the transition and inner transition elements. So we’re talking about the d-block and f-block – the ones students often find harder to remember, especially when they all start sounding similar. I usually bring this out in December when we’re still covering content but everyone’s a bit tired and ready for a change of pace. The cards have either the element’s name or its symbol. Students have to match the two, and they can do that in pairs or small groups. It works like a memory game or just a straight matching activity, depending on how much time we have. Some years I use the cards just for review, other times we build sorting activities around them. Like dividing the metals into transition, lanthanides and actinides. It depends on the group. Advanced students sometimes add a use or a property for each element as they go, which makes it more of a challenge. There are a lot of cards – over 250 – but I don’t always use them all. You can just print the ones you need. I usually go with thicker paper or cardstock, and if I have time, I laminate them so they last. Once cut, I keep them in envelopes and reuse them next year. The design has a winter look – nothing too bright or distracting, just something that makes it feel a bit more seasonal without being silly. I’ve found it helpful for lessons when you still want students to work with real content, but in a way that feels relaxed. Especially useful before the holidays or at the end of a topic on metals. Fall Numbers Memory Game Bring autumn fun into your math lessons! This set of fall-themed flashcards gives students repeated practice with numbers from 0 to 30 in a playful and flexible format. I first made these for my kindergarten class, when many of my students still needed support with recognizing numbers and putting them in the right order. The cards worked well because they could be used in so many different ways without having to prepare something new each time. There are 228 cards in total, divided into six full sets with different colored borders. The colors make it easy to keep groups organized, since each table can use a separate set without mixing the cards together. Each card shows a single number in a large, clear font, which helps beginning learners and also supports students who struggle with visual distractions. The cards can be used for memory or matching games, where students flip over two at a time and try to find pairs. Another favorite activity in my class has been sequencing: students work together to lay the cards out from 0 to 30. For more active lessons, we sometimes spread the cards on the floor and have students “walk” the numbers in order, which adds movement to the practice. I also use the cards as simple flashcards, holding them up for quick recognition drills, or handing one card to each student and asking the group to line up in numerical order. With partners, students have created their own math problems using the numbers they draw, which adds a layer of challenge for more advanced learners. Differentiation is built in, since you can choose how many numbers to include. With beginners, I usually work with 0–10. As students grow more confident, I extend to 0–20 and eventually the full 0–30. Adding a timer or encouraging students to say each number out loud when they play can make the activity even more engaging. Preparation is straightforward: print the set you want, cut the cards, and laminate if you plan to reuse them. I keep each set in small envelopes or bags so they are ready for math centers, group games, or quick warm-ups. The fall design adds a seasonal touch, but the number practice is useful all year long. Following the set of flash cards are 7 worksheets with concepts in uppercase and lowercase letter identification and writing, identifying and distinguishing between ending sounds, and vocabulary building. Autumn Number Match Game Spot It Style Cards for Numbers 0–30 This autumn number game is built on the idea of the classic “Spot It” style, but instead of pictures, the focus here is on numbers. Students practice recognizing numbers from 0 up to 30 while playing against each other in a quick, visual matching activity. I first used it in my math centers in October, when the fall theme felt right, and it has been easy to bring out again each year. The resource includes 93 cards in total. There are three full decks of 31 cards each, and every two cards always share exactly one number in common. The decks come in three shapes—round, square, and hexagon—so you can choose what works best for your classroom. I usually cut one set of square cards for daily use because they are fastest to prepare, and then I keep the round set laminated for special occasions. The rules are simple. Each student gets a card. A card from the pile is placed in the middle, and everyone searches for the one number that appears on both. The first student to spot it calls it out and collects the card. The winner is the one with the most cards at the end. The pace keeps the game lively, and students naturally want to play more than once. What I like about this game is the flexibility. For beginners, I often reduce the range to numbers 0–10 so it feels manageable. Later I expand to 0–20 or the full 0–30. Some groups add their own rules, like playing in teams or keeping tally marks on a score sheet, which gives them extra practice with recording numbers. It works well as a math center, a partner game, or as an activity for early finishers. Because it takes only a few minutes to explain, I sometimes use it at the end of class when we have a little extra time. The autumn design makes it seasonal, but the math practice—recognizing and saying numbers—fits into any unit on counting and number sense. Preparation is easy: print the cards, cut them out, and laminate if you want them to last longer. I store mine in small envelopes so they are ready whenever I need them. What a fun-filled way to review the tables for beginners working on 0,1,2,5,and 10 tables. This Christmas- themed game provides practice to build fluency in multiplying as described in CCSS. Math Content 3.NBT.A.3. Since it is limited to 0,1,2,5, and 10, it makes a good introductory to 3rd or the end of 2nd grade. You can run the cards off on cardstock, cut to size, and laminate them for a permanent game solution. You can also run them off on paper and have the students cross off the answer as they solve the problems. The game can be played by small groups at a center. I included blanks that students can use to create questions and boards. Based on your allowed time, you can play five in a row, just the corners, or cover the whole board. Since all of the possible combinations of multiplication problems are provided, there will be duplication of answers. I spread the calling cards out and as soon as I see an answer that will have duplicates ( for example the number 12), I remove duplicates as I come to them. Another way to handle this issue is to remove ahead or pick and choose groups of tables you want to concentrate your efforts on. We all know that students learn best when they are actively doing something, not just staring at a screen. I designed this PowerPoint game to turn standard vocabulary repetition into a hands-on challenge that keeps students focused and clicking. How the Interaction Works: This isn't a passive slideshow. It is a gamified loop that requires the student to make a choice to move forward: The Mission: On each slide, the student reads the target color name displayed on the tag at the bottom (e.g., "Red" or "Blue"). The Action: They must actively scan the pile of objects and click the correct matching yarn ball. The Instant Reward: This is the best part. If they click the right answer, the slide instantly transitions to a full-screen reveal of that color pattern. It gives immediate visual feedback that says, "Yes, you got it right!" Halloween Domino Game – Numbers 0–30 and Number Words This Halloween domino set offers a seasonal way to practice both numbers and number words from 0 to 30. I started using it in October with my first graders, who were learning to connect written words with digits, and it quickly became a classroom favorite. The familiar domino format makes the rules easy to understand, so students can begin playing right away with very little explanation. The resource includes two full sets of domino cards, 68 pieces in total. The first set shows the standard number and number word pairings. The second set is designed with syllable-style breaks to support early readers who are still developing confidence with longer words. I have found that this version works well for students who struggle with spelling or for English language learners who need extra support with pronunciation. You can choose between different ranges depending on your group: 0–10 for beginners, 0–20 for more practice, or the full 0–30 for advanced learners. Having these options makes it easy to differentiate without preparing separate materials. In my classroom, the dominoes have been used in math centers, during small group rotations, and even spread out on the floor in the hallway for a more active lesson. Students enjoy the movement of placing down cards, and it gives them a sense of progress as the chain grows longer. The game also encourages collaboration, since they need to watch what others are playing and wait for their turn. Prep is straightforward: print the cards, cut them, and laminate if you plan to reuse them. Once the set is ready, it can be stored in a small box or envelope for quick access. This game is most useful in kindergarten and grade 1, but it can also serve as extra practice for students in grade 2 who need reinforcement with number words. Fall Domino Game Numbers 0–30 and Number Words This autumn domino game is a hands-on way for students to practice both numbers and number words from 0 to 30. I introduced it during the fall term with my grade 1 class, and the students immediately understood the rules because it follows the familiar domino format. The seasonal design added a nice touch, but the main benefit was the repeated practice with connecting numbers and words. The set includes 68 cards in total, with two different versions. One version shows the standard number words, while the second version breaks the words into syllables. I noticed that the syllable version was especially helpful for younger readers or for students who still found longer number words challenging. Words such as “seventeen” or “twenty-four” became easier to read and pronounce when broken down into smaller parts. The game can be adjusted by number range, which makes it easy to differentiate. With beginners, I often start with 0–10 so that the game feels manageable. Later I expand the set to 0–20, and eventually the full 0–30 for more advanced groups. Because of this flexibility, the same set can be reused throughout the year with different levels of learners. There are several ways to play. In small groups, students take turns matching numbers with the correct number words, trying to be the first to play all their cards. In a whole-class setting, I sometimes spread the cards across the floor and let students work together to build one long domino chain. This version turns the game into a collaborative activity and gets everyone moving while still practicing number recognition. Preparation is simple. Print the cards, cut them apart, and laminate them if you want to reuse the set in future years. I keep mine in small envelopes labeled with 0–10, 0–20, and 0–30 so I can quickly pull the right range for each group. Fall Alphabet Match Game Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Center Spot It Style Cards for Early Literacy This fall-themed alphabet game is a playful way for students to practice uppercase and lowercase letters. The activity is based on a “find the match” system: each card has exactly one letter in common with another card, and students have to be the first to spot it. I have used this kind of game format with kindergarten and first grade, and it usually gets the whole group involved quickly. The set includes 93 cards in total, divided into three different versions of 31 cards each. There are round cards, hexagons, and squares. I usually prepare the square version when I need something quick to cut, but the round cards feel more like a traditional game and always catch students’ attention. The hexagons are a nice option if you want a different look. Each card shows six pictures, with the letters hidden among them, so students have to focus closely to find the match. This type of activity works well for building letter recognition, both uppercase and lowercase. It also helps with visual perception, concentration, and taking turns in a group setting. In my classroom, I sometimes keep the game in a literacy center, and other times I use it as a quick warm-up before a reading lesson. It is flexible enough to use in small groups, partner work, or even as an early finisher option. The set also comes with tally sheets, which give students an extra chance to record their letters and practice writing. Some of my students liked keeping track of their matches this way, which turned the game into a mix of play and writing practice. This set of Winter-themed learning activities is the perfect addition to your ELA curriculum. Your kiddos in Pre-K, TK, kindergarten, and grade 1 will benefit from the variety of activities this product offers. Within the pages you will find 16 flashcards with pictures and their corresponding word labels, 7 worksheets, 2 hands-on learning games, and 1 additional learning game in a Power Point format. Not only will these learning tools help strengthen vocabulary, but they’ll also give your pre-readers the opportunity to practice the concepts of identifying uppercase and lowercase letters and phonemic awareness. The 16 Winter-themed words are used throughout each activity and focus on holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and Valentine’s Day. There are also terms that relate directly to the season of Winter such as hibernation, penguins, and snowflakes. Along with the aforementioned areas of learning, your learners will also practice fundamental fine motor skills with writing letters, cutting, gluing, and manipulating clothes pins. The flashcards and 2 hands-on learning games are available in both a color version and a black & white version. Most of the worksheets are also available in both versions. The 25 Power Point slides were created in a full-color version to entice and engage your learners. While the Power Point activity was designed as a whole class learning game, the 2 additional games are wonderful individual or small learning group activities. The 7 worksheets can be used in a variety of ways including large or small groups, individually, or a homework assignment. For your convenience, an answer key is provided for all worksheets. Below are the details of each activity included in this product. PAGES 1-3: Sixteen flashcards with pictures and word labels PAGE 4: learners will circle one of two letters that show the beginning sound of the winter picture. PAGE 5: learners will draw lines matching the beginning sound of a winter picture and its letter partner. PAGE 6: learners will color the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” symbol to show if the given letter matches the beginning sound of the winter picture. PAGE 7: learners will cut and glue letters to the winter picture that matches the beginning sound. PAGE 8: learners will color one of two winter pictures that have the beginning sound of the letter shown. PAGE 9: learners will write the uppercase and lowercase letters of the winter picture’s beginning sound. PAGE 10: learners will write the first letter of a winter word that shows its beginning sound. PAGES 11-14: learners will place labeled clothespins or letter tiles at the beginning of each winter word to show the word’s beginning sound. PAGES 15-17: a set of 16 cards that include winter pictures only. These cards are used in conjunction with the set of letter cards on the following pages. PAGES 18-20: a set of 16 cards that include uppercase and lowercase letters only. These cards are used in conjunction with the set of picture cards on the previous pages. ANSWER KEY POWER POINT ACTIVITY:A set of 25 slides where learners follow Sal the Snowman through a game of “thumbs up or thumbs down” to identify the beginning sounds of Winter-themed words.
