“I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version)
Holiday & Seasonal, Language Development, ELA, Special Resources, Special Education Needs (SEN), Math, Early Math, Numbers, Holidays, Christmas, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Projects, Flashcards, Centers
“I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version) In my early elementary classes, I’ve often found that the weeks before winter break call for simple, low-pressure activities that still support learning. That’s why I’ve used this number word version of “I Have, Who Has?” so many times—especially with students who are still building confidence in recognizing numbers and reading number words. The game includes number ranges from 0 to 30, so it’s easy to adapt. For some groups, I only use 0 to 10. For others, I include more cards depending on how comfortable they are with the vocabulary. I’ve even used this as a listening activity in small ESL groups, because it gives students repeated exposure to spoken and written number words in a playful format. There’s also a version with syllable breaks, which helps a lot with early readers or children working on pronunciation. The way we usually play it is simple. Each student receives one or more cards, and the round begins when someone says, “I have one. Who has six?” The game continues until all cards have been played. It takes a few minutes for students to get used to the rhythm, but after that, they’re fully focused and often ask to play another round. It also works well when we play in a circle or in smaller groups during center time. What I like most about this game is that it helps students hear, read, and say numbers in context, without needing worksheets or flashcards. I’ve printed my sets on colored paper to help keep different levels organized, and I keep them in envelopes for easy access year after year. The prep is quick, and it fits easily into a short block of time—whether it’s a transition, a review session, or just something calm to end the day. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Chemistry Christmas Theme Flashcards: Match Element Names and Symbols
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects, Centers
Chemistry Flashcards – Match Main Group Element Names and Symbols Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable set of flashcards that I put together to help students remember the names and symbols of the elements. I’ve used this kind of thing around December when everyone’s a bit tired but we still want to do something related to chemistry. The cards have either the name of an element or its symbol, and students just try to find the right pairs. It’s simple, but they really do remember more that way. There’s a bit of a seasonal theme to the design, which makes it feel different from the usual review work. You can use the cards in all sorts of ways — I’ve tried it as a memory game, or just as a quiet task for pairs. It depends on the group. For students who are still getting to know the periodic table, I just give them a smaller set with the first 20 or so elements. For stronger groups, they can use the full set and even add extra facts to each card while they’re working. You don’t need anything special to prep the game. I just print the cards on thicker paper and sometimes laminate them if I want to keep them for next year. Once they’re cut out, you can keep them in small envelopes or boxes, depending on how you like to organize your materials. It’s one of those things that’s easy to bring in when you need something hands-on but still subject-related. The students enjoy it more than a worksheet, and they do actually talk about the elements while they play, which is always a win. You can also use it as a station or a warm-up during December lessons. All the cards are included, along with a short explanation of how to use them. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Classic Christmas carols are perfect for reflecting on the true meaning of the season. Teach children about the gifts brought to Jesus by the three kings. The bright star was their guide as they traveled over mountains to see the Savior of the world. “We three kings of Orient are bearing gifts we traverse afar. Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star. Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain, gold I bring to crown Him again. King forever, ceasing never over us all to reign. O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading still proceeding, guide us to the perfect light.” What gifts would you bring to Jesus? Young readers will enjoy singing this classic carol that celebrates the gifts brought to Jesus. Chemical elements Christmas Ornaments – Printable Templates for December Science Lessons This printable resource includes black-and-white templates for all 118 elements of the periodic table. Each template shows the element’s name and symbol and can be printed for students to personalize. The activity is intended for the winter season, especially around December, when students are often busy but still benefit from focused, creative work. Students can decorate the element templates with color or drawings and, depending on the level, add simple facts or uses of the element. Some teachers use the finished pieces for a classroom display—on walls, windows, or doors. Others fold them into 3D shapes and hang them from the ceiling or around a subject-themed tree. Instructions for both 2D and foldable 3D formats are included, though the actual designs stay simple so that students can focus on content. No special materials are required beyond paper, scissors, and some colors. The templates work well with different age groups, from basic recognition in younger grades to research tasks for older students. Many classes use the templates as a seasonal wrap-up to a unit on atomic structure or chemical elements. It helps students to slow down while still staying connected to subject material. The repetitive visual exposure to symbols and element names supports retention, especially when students walk past the display each day. This activity is flexible enough to be used as a quiet individual task, a group effort, or part of a themed science week. Teachers can adapt the number of elements, the complexity of the task, and the way the results are shared. Included are 118 element cards, printing instructions, and some simple ideas for using the resource in class. It can be a nice way to connect content with classroom atmosphere during the last weeks of term. Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Printable Chemistry Pennants – Christmas Classroom Decor
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Homeschool Templates, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Activities, Projects, Labs, Experiments, Classroom Decor, Door Decor, Bulletin Boards, Crafts, Centers, Banners
Printable Chemistry Pennants – Christmas Classroom Decor I made this banner because I wanted something simple to hang in my classroom during the weeks before the holidays — something that looked nice but still connected to chemistry. These are small triangle flags, each showing one element from the main group, with symbol, name, and atomic number. The design has a bit of a holiday touch but it’s not loud or silly, so it works even if you don’t go all-in on Christmas decorations. What I like about it is that I can just print it, cut it out, and hang it up, and it brings colour to the room without much effort. The students walk past it every day, and after a while they start to recognise elements just from seeing them over and over again. It’s not a big thing, but I’ve noticed that small exposures like that can really help, especially for the students who don’t memorize things easily. I printed mine on heavier paper and used some string and tape to hang it across the whiteboard. One year I laminated them so I could use them again the next time, and they held up really well. You can hang them in a line, in clusters, or just tape them to cabinets or doors — whatever fits your classroom. Sometimes I also use them as a starting point. I might ask a student to pick one element from the banner and tell me something about it, or we do a quick warm-up based on the symbols they see. But most of the time, it’s just there, and that’s enough. It makes the space feel less grey in December, and still keeps the focus on science. It’s nothing complicated — just a printable you can use when you want something useful and a little seasonal. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Infuse the winter months with enthusiasm in your math class by using this Winter-Themed Pixel Art Activity for Multiplying and Dividing Fractions! Students will answer 20 fraction problems: multiplication and division. With each correct answer, part of a picture will be revealed! The image will reveal a winter game, in this case ski jump. This is a fun, self-checking activity to complete on the computer or personalize your winter sports, or winter themed math day! Once the image is revealed, fun facts about ski jumping will be revealed as well! Great for generating interesting conversation about things other than math! This is a self-checking activity; when students get answers correct, more pixels are revealed. If they do not get answers correct, the correct pixels are not revealed and they can go back and try to find their mistake. Students may write improper fractions or mixed numbers, so the focus is not on writing a specific answer format, but on practicing multiplication and division of fractions. This resource includes: 20 fraction problems about multiplying and diving fractions A fun digital pixel art activity that is self-checking! Winter sports themed, inspired by the winter games! A worksheet version to print and have students show work by paper and pencil Task cards, which are great for math centers, small group work, or a scoot activity An answer key for teachers Fun facts about ski jumping when the activity is complete! Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Word Problems, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects
Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity During the last week before winter break, I like to keep my lessons calm but still connected to content. This chemistry domino game has worked well in that context. It gives students a chance to revisit the periodic table in a light way, without feeling like they’re doing a full review worksheet. The game is made up of cards that show either the name of an element or its chemical symbol. Students connect the matching parts, so that the end of one card links to the start of the next, just like with a regular domino set. I included all 118 elements, from Hydrogen to Oganesson, so there’s enough variety for most grade levels. Depending on the group, I sometimes let them use a periodic table as support. In other classes, we turn it into more of a memory challenge. Some students take it seriously and try to build the longest chain, others enjoy working in pairs or small groups just to go over what they remember. The cards have a light seasonal theme, which fits well with December lessons. They can be printed on heavier paper, and I usually store them in envelopes or folders by element groups if I want to use them again the next year. No extra materials are needed beyond scissors and maybe a bit of tape or a surface to build on. The setup doesn’t take long, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed. Students still talk about chemistry, especially when they help each other with tricky symbols. It works well in classes where energy is low but you still want them engaged in something subject-related. All the cards and a short set of instructions are included. I’ve used it in different grade levels, and it’s easy to adjust depending on time and ability. A simple idea, but one that helps bring chemistry into the room in a different way. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know?
