Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards (Christmas Theme) This is a chemistry card game I’ve used in class when we need something more hands-on but still connected to what we’re learning. It works kind of like “Dobble” or “Spot it!”, where you have to find the symbol that two cards have in common. In this case, the cards show element symbols from the first 31 main group elements. No names, just symbols – so it only works if students already know some of them. I usually bring this out in December, when the mood in class is a bit more relaxed but we’re still doing chemistry. The game moves quickly, and students enjoy it once they understand the rules. It doesn’t need any extra materials beyond the cards. Just print them, cut them out, and you’re good to go. There are 93 cards in total, with the same content but in three different shapes: round, square, and hexagon. I printed the square version because it’s easiest to cut, but the round cards look nice too. If you want to keep them for next year, laminating helps. I use it as a warm-up or at a station, sometimes even as a competition in small groups. The best part is that students have to look closely at the symbols and make quick decisions. It really helps with recognition. Some classes get quite into it, and others play more calmly – both work. You can also combine it with coloring beforehand. For example, color all Group 1 elements the same – that makes sorting and grouping easier later. It’s not a complex game, but it keeps the focus on the element symbols without turning it into a test. That’s what I wanted when I made it – something simple that still helps them practise. All the cards are included in the file, plus a short page with how to use them. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Lesson based on 'Last Christmas' by Wham!
ELA, Christmas, Holidays, Holiday & Seasonal, Adult Education, High School, Middle School, Homeschool Resources, Songs, Activities, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
If you are a teacher, whether an English teacher or not, and are seeking enjoyable activities for the days before the Christmas break when students are antsy, then this lesson is perfect for you! This lesson is focused on the beloved Christmas tune 'Last Christmas' by the famous British duo Wham! The song, in fact, has very little connection to Christmas! The focus is primarily on a relationship that didn't work out and encountering the person again a year later. Just the phrase 'Last Christmas' relates to the holiday season, signaling the climax of the relationship. Nevertheless, it continues to be chosen as the most beloved Christmas song. The lesson offers detailed guidance for the instructor and a variety of exercises to help students practice their four skills. You can choose to use either the audio or video version of the song. Both the necessary photocopy worksheets and the solutions to the tasks are included.

Christmas Dog Cards – Colouring Printable Templates for Students
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Holidays, Holiday & Seasonal, Community Building, Resources for Teachers, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Resources, Christmas, Not Grade Specific, Middle School, Elementary, High School, Homeschool Resources, Early Learning, Projects, Activities, Bulletin Boards, Classroom Decor, Drawing Templates & Outlines, Worksheets & Printables, Coloring Pages, Worksheets, Door Decor, Word Walls
Dog Cards to Colour – Easy Classroom Activity for the Week Before Break I made these dog cards last year for my class because that last week before the holidays is always kind of messy and loud, and I just needed something simple and quiet. The idea was to have something that felt a bit festive without needing a lot of prep, and also without turning the classroom into glitter chaos. The cards are just black and white drawings of different dogs wearing hats or scarves, nothing complicated, just cute. I printed them out on slightly thicker paper, gave the kids pencils and markers, and that was it. Some of the students took a lot of time choosing which dog they liked best. Others just grabbed one and started colouring right away. A few wanted to do more than one. I didn’t make any rules around it. Some kids added a message inside, others didn’t. A couple of students wrote little notes to the janitor or their families. One card even ended up on the classroom door with a note for our imaginary school dog (we don’t actually have one, but they like to pretend). It was sweet. We didn’t tie it to any lesson plan, I didn’t grade it, and I didn’t ask for a final product. It was just something they could do to wind down. We listened to quiet music, and honestly, it was one of the calmest hours of the whole month. They were focused, but relaxed. And because it was dogs, even students who usually don’t enjoy drawing stayed with it. If I had to describe it, I’d say it’s a quiet little task that gives students something to do with their hands and minds when they don’t have a lot of focus left. Just print, hand out, and let them take it from there. No rules, no stress. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Winter Plotting Points on the Coordinate Plane Pixel Art Activity
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Geometry, Graphing, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Trust me when I say that if you have ever attempted to incorporate coordinate plane practice in the winter months in the classroom, you know exactly what I am talking about: restless kids, short attention span, and anything resembling “schoolwork” gets the side eye. This pixel winter-themed project removes all of this stress from your shoulders. It provides your 5th or 6th-grade students with appreciable point-plotting practice while being different from the norm. The best part about this is how simple it is: Students put twenty coordinate pairs in the familiar drag-and-drop interface. With each correct point placed, students get a glimpse of a puzzle image hiding behind the coordinate grid. Piece by piece, the complete winter image emerges. Even those students who tend to zone out in graphing class sit up straight knowing there's going to be a reward in the form of unearthing a picture. It's not just another graphing project—it's like puzzle-solving. And the best part of this process? This process is completely self-checking. You don't have to be right there in front of the computer, adjusting and confirming if the point is in the correct spot. The lesson handles all of this information by itself. A point in the wrong spot simply means the image doesn't appear. The students learn from this process and try again. You can also use this resource in multiple ways; you can use it digitally in class practice or incorporate it in your homeward assignments as an interactive way to review. This resource works perfectly after demonstrating the coordinate graph in class for the first time, during a spiral review in the middle of the unit, or even right before class if there's going to be a test. This resource fits perfectly in class because of the wintery theme; in fact, it doesn’t cross over into anything holiday-related. Here's what's included: • Digital no-prep pixel art lesson • Twenty drag-and-drop ordered pairs with coverage of all four quadrants • Fully self-checking format featuring a winter mystery picture • Easy-to-follow student instructions • Ready-to-use environment that can be assigned in seconds Teachers appreciate that this activity is fresh and interesting yet not complicated. Students appreciate that this activity is like working on a puzzle compared to other math assignments. And you will appreciate that this process provides you with reliable data from practice without contributing more to your grading stack. This Mystery Picture Activity in math class would be the perfect way for your students to develop coordinate planes this winter if you want the students to have fun doing math assignments.

It's not just about teaching; it's about creating an enjoyable and enriching experience for your students. Because who says math can't be both educational and fun simultaneously? It's the perfect activity for this season, I used it as an emergency subplan in 9th grade and the kids loved it. They continuosly ask for more. If they need to complete it in different days, no problem. They just have to use the same device and the same browser. A button "CONTINUE" will appear in first page.

“I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version)
Holiday & Seasonal, Language Development, ELA, Special Resources, Special Education Needs (SEN), Math, Early Math, Numbers, Holidays, Christmas, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Projects, Flashcards, Centers
“I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version) In my early elementary classes, I’ve often found that the weeks before winter break call for simple, low-pressure activities that still support learning. That’s why I’ve used this number word version of “I Have, Who Has?” so many times—especially with students who are still building confidence in recognizing numbers and reading number words. The game includes number ranges from 0 to 30, so it’s easy to adapt. For some groups, I only use 0 to 10. For others, I include more cards depending on how comfortable they are with the vocabulary. I’ve even used this as a listening activity in small ESL groups, because it gives students repeated exposure to spoken and written number words in a playful format. There’s also a version with syllable breaks, which helps a lot with early readers or children working on pronunciation. The way we usually play it is simple. Each student receives one or more cards, and the round begins when someone says, “I have one. Who has six?” The game continues until all cards have been played. It takes a few minutes for students to get used to the rhythm, but after that, they’re fully focused and often ask to play another round. It also works well when we play in a circle or in smaller groups during center time. What I like most about this game is that it helps students hear, read, and say numbers in context, without needing worksheets or flashcards. I’ve printed my sets on colored paper to help keep different levels organized, and I keep them in envelopes for easy access year after year. The prep is quick, and it fits easily into a short block of time—whether it’s a transition, a review session, or just something calm to end the day. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Transition & Inner‑Transition Elements Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable flashcard set I’ve used in chemistry classes, mostly with upper secondary students. The cards focus on the transition and inner transition elements. So we’re talking about the d-block and f-block – the ones students often find harder to remember, especially when they all start sounding similar. I usually bring this out in December when we’re still covering content but everyone’s a bit tired and ready for a change of pace. The cards have either the element’s name or its symbol. Students have to match the two, and they can do that in pairs or small groups. It works like a memory game or just a straight matching activity, depending on how much time we have. Some years I use the cards just for review, other times we build sorting activities around them. Like dividing the metals into transition, lanthanides and actinides. It depends on the group. Advanced students sometimes add a use or a property for each element as they go, which makes it more of a challenge. There are a lot of cards – over 250 – but I don’t always use them all. You can just print the ones you need. I usually go with thicker paper or cardstock, and if I have time, I laminate them so they last. Once cut, I keep them in envelopes and reuse them next year. The design has a winter look – nothing too bright or distracting, just something that makes it feel a bit more seasonal without being silly. I’ve found it helpful for lessons when you still want students to work with real content, but in a way that feels relaxed. Especially useful before the holidays or at the end of a topic on metals. Everything’s in the file – all cards and a short page with tips. It’s been a helpful tool in my December lessons. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Merry Christmas! Audio Book
Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Read Alouds, Activities
Kids will listen to “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,” a traditional Christmas story written by Clement Clark Moore and first published in 1823. This nostalgic, rhyming poem describes Santa Claus and how he delivers presents to sleeping children while their father awakes to hear clattering on the lawn. In the next story “The Littlest Angel,” children learn that giving Christmas presents can be just as exciting as receiving them. Finally, in the classic story of “The Nutcracker,” young listeners will meet Marie, a little girl that receives a magnificent Nutcracker from a mysterious man named Herr Drosselmeyer. Traditional stories and classic Christmas songs will entertain eager children as they anticipate the arrival of Christmas morning.
