Lesson Plan on Mother's Day
Mother's Day, Holidays, Holiday & Seasonal, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Through an interesting film, hands-on activities, and artistic expression, this 90-minute session exposes children to the origins and meaning of Mother's Day. Students investigate the origins of Mother's Day using the educational film "History of Mother's Day" by HISTORY. Topics covered include ancient Greek customs, British "Mothering Sunday," and Anna Jarvis's attempts to establish Mother's Day in the US. After a warm-up conversation about the students' own holiday experiences, the class watches the film under guidance and completes comprehension exercises to improve listening and understanding. After that, students do vocabulary and true/false exercises to strengthen their understanding of important ideas and historical details. They discuss cultural customs and thoughts about the modern Mother's Day celebration in groups. Students write heartfelt messages to their mothers and make simple Mother's Day cards to personalize the educational process. These creative exercises promote the development of language skills as well as emotional expression. In order to foster community and thankfulness, the session concludes with a class discussion and sharing period. A printable student worksheet is ideal for use at home or in the classroom because it includes all of the assignments and an answer key. This lesson honors one of the most important days of the year while fusing language, creativity, and history.

Let’s face it—moms deserve more thank-yous than the average superhero. From finding missing socks to surviving homework meltdowns, they’ve earned their capes. This “Write a Story: A Big Thank You” Mother’s Day Activity helps students reflect on all the things moms (or special caregivers) do, and turn that appreciation into a creative, heartfelt, or hilarious story. Students will write a tale that says “thanks” in the most imaginative ways possible. Maybe it’s a child building a thank-you machine, writing a song, or planning a parade with glitter, balloons, and a marching band of squirrels. Whatever the storyline, students will practice writing while also celebrating their real-life heroes. Ways to Use: Whole-class Mother’s Day writing activity Literacy centers or writing workshop Morning work or fast-finisher task Paired with a handmade thank-you card or drawing Take-home gift for moms or caregivers Advantages: Encourages gratitude, empathy, and reflection Builds narrative writing, sequencing, and vocabulary No prep, just print and pass out Ideal for various writing levels A creative way to celebrate Mother’s Day Pdf file includes 2 pages. Get ready to “moo-ve” into some creative fun with the Color By Number: Cow Shape Coloring Activity! This isn’t your average barnyard scene, no mud, no hay, and best of all, no cowbells at 5 a.m. This activity lets you color your own cheerful cow without the smell or any stray “moo” interrupting your focus. Each part of this delightful cow is numbered, leading you from nose to hoof in perfect order so that you can create a masterpiece worthy of any pasture. Imagine it as the iconic black-and-white Holstein or go wild with spots in colors cows only dream of, purple, teal, maybe even a little glitter (why not?). The great thing about this cow is it won’t mind one bit. This is the ideal activity for animal lovers, budding farmers, or anyone who’s just looking to unwind and say they’ve “colored a cow” (imagine the bragging rights!). And when you’re done, you’ll have a farm-fresh cow to hang on the fridge, gift to a friend, or keep as a silent reminder of your rural coloring adventure. No hay allergies, no mucking stalls, just pure, bovine bliss in coloring form! Enjoy!
