These butterfly themed prewriting tracing card activity gives students ample practice with handwriting by having them trace a wide variety of lines, including straight lines, zig zags, curves, and loops. These tracing lines will help guide students to learn to write from left to right to mimic how students will eventually learn to write words and sentences. There are two sets of cards in this product: One set has a colorful boarder that you can be printed on white paper. The bright colors of this set will keep students engaged with tracing. One set has a white border. The less busy background is perfect for students who may become distracted by the extra patterns and colors. Ways to Use Writing or Fine Motor Center - Place these cards in a writing or fine motor center for students to practice tracing the lines or placing manipulates onto the lines. Write and Wipe Activity - Laminate the cards to create a write and wipe activity. Morning Tubs or Baskets - Place the cards in a morning tub for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can pull aside students who need extra writing practice to complete these cards. There are several ways you can prepare these cards. You can create a fine motor center by adding small manipulatives to lay on top of the lines. By adding tongs, the teacher can add more fine motor practice. You can laminate the cards and create a write and wipe activity using dry erase markers. A third way to use these cards is to add cotton swabs and paint for students to place dots on the lines. Be sure to instruct students to start at the left and move to the right, directing them to guide the butterfly to the flower. These insect themed prewriting cards are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. There are two options for creating these cards. One is to cut them apart and have students complete in one of the ways listed above. The other is to leave the sheet whole and simply laminate. The cards can easily be stored in a pencil box so that this activity is easy to set up, clean up and store.

These Thanksgiving themed number cards are perfect for students who are learning with a Thanksgiving theme. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the letters of the number. What is Included: This set includes one number card and one number word card for all numbers up to 20. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the numbers to their number words. Attach a paper clip to a number card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the numbers for a fun fishing game. Teach your students about the history and traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday. Reading sheets cover the following topics: EARLY HISTORY Students learn about ancient harvest/autumn festivals celebrated around the world. THE PILGRIMS Covers other examples of thanksgiving services in colonial Virginia and also tells the story of the early Thanksgiving celebrations in New England. Here's a short text example: "The most famous early thanksgiving took place at Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1621. A group of settlers, known as the Pilgrims, had arrived on the coast just as winter was beginning. Without enough food, around 50% died over the next few months. The local Massasoit Native Americans helped the Pilgrims by giving them food and showing them how to use fish as a food for growing corn. After the harvest there was a feast at which around 50 Pilgrims and 90 Massasoit ate corn, ducks, geese, swans, venison, fish, and oysters as well as fruits and vegetables. The Pilgrims held another thanksgiving feast in 1623 after weeks of rain had ended a long drought which was killing many of their crops. Over the next 150 years many other people in New England began holding their own thanksgiving celebrations but at different times of the year. These celebrations were especially important because, in many parts of New England, Christmas celebrations were banned." THE 1700s & 1800s Informs students about how and why the celebration of Thanksgiving expanded in both centuries, especially the period of the Civil War THE 20th CENTURY Students learn about the impacts of World War One and World War Two on the celebration of Thanksgiving as well as how improvements in road and air travel made family celebrations easier. ACTIVITIES Students can use the information they learn to create an illustrated timeline showing the history of Thanksgiving. The timeline sheets come in a blank and illustrated version depending on your students' needs. There are also materials to create a poster version of the project as well. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES The file also contains a fun crossword activity and coloring pages. There is also a PowerPoint to help guide teachers and students through each part of the unit.
