Build A Turkey Fine Motor Activity

Build A Turkey Fine Motor Activity
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Thanksgiving, Counting, Early Math, Numbers, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities, Centers

Students will have a ton of fun counting and recognizing fall colors while they build their own playdough turkeys! What is Included: This resource contains instructions for a fun build a turkey activity. There are also counting feather cards to help students build their turkeys. How to Complete: Students will first build their turkey's body out of playdough. They will add two googly eyes and a triangle beak to the front of their turkey. They will then take one of the feather cards and add the correct number and color of feathers to their turkey's body. If playdough is not an option, students can build turkeys out of clay, Styrofoam balls, or any substance that can either be shaped into a ball or allow for craft feathers to be poked inside. Another fun variation for this activity is instead of using the feather cards, students can roll a die to see how many feathers of a particular color to add to their turkey. When to Use: Fine Motor or Math Center - Place the cards and materials in the center for students to build their turkeys. Quiet Activity - Students can create a turkey quietly while their classmates nap. Partner Activity - Students can work together to create a turkey. This activity is a fun way for students to practice counting. They get to use their hands to build a turkey, which will help students stay engaged with the activity of counting. The feather counting cards are low prep. They just need to be printed and cut apart. The teacher may laminate the cards for durability if desired. The cards can easily be stored in a task box with the colored feathers when not in use. Skills Assessed: This activity allows students to practice counting, matching colors, and build fine motor skills.

Thanksgiving : A Short History

Thanksgiving : A Short History
Holiday & Seasonal, Social Studies, Holidays, Thanksgiving, History, History: USA, Not Grade Specific, Activities

Teach your students about the history and traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday. Reading sheets cover the following topics: EARLY HISTORY Students learn about ancient harvest/autumn festivals celebrated around the world. THE PILGRIMS Covers other examples of thanksgiving services in colonial Virginia and also tells the story of the early Thanksgiving celebrations in New England. Here's a short text example: "The most famous early thanksgiving took place at Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1621. A group of settlers, known as the Pilgrims, had arrived on the coast just as winter was beginning. Without enough food, around 50% died over the next few months. The local Massasoit Native Americans helped the Pilgrims by giving them food and showing them how to use fish as a food for growing corn. After the harvest there was a feast at which around 50 Pilgrims and 90 Massasoit ate corn, ducks, geese, swans, venison, fish, and oysters as well as fruits and vegetables. The Pilgrims held another thanksgiving feast in 1623 after weeks of rain had ended a long drought which was killing many of their crops. Over the next 150 years many other people in New England began holding their own thanksgiving celebrations but at different times of the year. These celebrations were especially important because, in many parts of New England, Christmas celebrations were banned." THE 1700s & 1800s Informs students about how and why the celebration of Thanksgiving expanded in both centuries, especially the period of the Civil War THE 20th CENTURY Students learn about the impacts of World War One and World War Two on the celebration of Thanksgiving as well as how improvements in road and air travel made family celebrations easier. ACTIVITIES Students can use the information they learn to create an illustrated timeline showing the history of Thanksgiving. The timeline sheets come in a blank and illustrated version depending on your students' needs. There are also materials to create a poster version of the project as well. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES The file also contains a fun crossword activity and coloring pages. There is also a PowerPoint to help guide teachers and students through each part of the unit.

Get ready for a gobble-worthy adventure with the A Turkey’s Adventure Writing Prompt ! This Thanksgiving activity invites kids to step into the feathers of a turkey and imagine their most epic journey. Will they escape the dinner table, become a turkey superhero, or travel the world in search of the tastiest corn? The possibilities are as endless as a buffet line. First, kids will channel their inner turkey and write about their big adventure. Maybe they’re a daring turkey ninja, dodging cranberry sauce traps and escaping the clutches of Farmer Fred. Or perhaps they’re a turkey with dreams of fame, starring in the Thanksgiving Day parade instead of ending up on a platter. Whether it’s action-packed, heartwarming, or downright hilarious, this activity lets imaginations soar higher than a turkey trying to take flight (well… almost). After the story is written, it’s time to bring it to life with a colorful drawing! Turkeys in disguises, turkeys in Paris, or turkeys just living their best lives, it’s up to the kids to illustrate their feathered protagonist’s escapades. Perfect for combining creativity and humor, this activity will leave everyone thankful for laughter, storytelling, and turkeys with BIG dreams. Bonus: no turkeys were harmed in the making of these tales! Enjoy!

Bring on the Thanksgiving Color by Number fun, where crayons meet comedy! These five pages are packed with festive designs like turkeys who forgot it’s November, pumpkins vying for pie stardom, and a cornucopia so full it’s practically saying, “Don’t judge me, it’s the holidays.” Each section is labeled with a number, and each number matches a color, simple, right? Unless you’re that one kid who insists on making the turkey purple because, and I quote, “It’s my artistic vision.” And honestly, who are we to argue? As your students work through these pages, they’ll unveil cheerful Thanksgiving scenes without even realizing they’re practicing focus and color-matching skills. It’s educational, but let’s keep that between us, no need to ruin the fun with big words. Whether it’s coloring a pumpkin the perfect shade of orange or accidentally turning a pie into an unintentional masterpiece, these pages are guaranteed to deliver laughs and creativity. No stress, no prep, and no arguments over who gets the last crayon. Just good old-fashioned fun—well, as old-fashioned as numbered coloring can get. So, grab your art supplies, and let’s make this Thanksgiving more colorful than Uncle Bob’s questionable holiday sweater. Enjoy!

You can laminate the cards and create a write and wipe activity using dry erase markers. A third way to use these cards is to add cotton swabs and paint for students to place dots on the lines. Be sure to instruct students to start at the left and move to the right, directing them to guide the bee to its hive. These insect themed prewriting cards are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. There are two options for creating these cards. One is to cut them apart and have students complete in one of the way listed above. The other is to leave the sheet whole and simply laminate.
