Let's Celebrate Thanksgiving Day Audio Book
Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Thanksgiving, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Read Alouds, Activities
Thanksgiving Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. For many families it is a time to gather together and eat turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and pumpkin pie! It’s also a time to give thanks and remember all of life’s blessings. Fun songs , and silly Thanksgiving Day jokes, will add extra fun and excitement to this special holiday. Kids will also be encouraged to “pay their blessings forward” by talking with their parents about making new traditions like volunteering at a soup kitchen or inviting someone less fortunate over for dinner.

Sunflowers – Coloring Sheet | Helianthus annuus A simple activity to accompany science or seasonal lessons 🌻🖍️ This printable coloring sheet focuses on the sunflower ( Helianthus annuus ) and can be used to support lessons on plants, summer flowers, or as a quiet creative task in between more content-heavy subjects. It’s easy to integrate into primary classroom routines and works well as a one-lesson activity – no prep needed. The download includes two versions: one with a cheerful color frame and one in classic black and white, perfect for photocopying. Students can color the sunflower while reviewing what they’ve learned or as part of an introduction to summer plants and flower species. What’s included: One sunflower coloring page with decorative frame (PDF) Color version for digital or presentation use Black and white version for classroom copying I’ve used this sheet alongside our lesson on plant parts or after reading a short informational text about sunflowers. Some students like to label the parts of the flower directly on the page or write a short description on the back. It also works well in stations, during free work time, or in a substitute lesson when you need something calm and creative. If you’re working on a seasonal theme, this sheet pairs nicely with other sunflower materials – like nonfiction texts, vocabulary work, or mini research tasks. It helps younger students connect scientific observation with creativity and gives them a chance to slow down and focus. This resource is ready to print and use in class or at home. 📍 Best wishes, Heike from @Lernfitness Did You Know? I teach with a certified therapy dog, and together we create a positive and welcoming learning environment. 🐶

Guided Reading Level O - World Harvest Foods (with Lesson Plan)
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Language Development, Holidays, Holiday & Seasonal, Thanksgiving, Social Studies, Geography, Grade 2, 3, 4, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments
This Guided Reading Book - World Harvest Foods (Level O) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Harvest Foods Around the World Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Social Studies (Culture) / Reading Primary Topic: Harvest festivals and foods in different cultures Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): O What This Book Teaches Best What “harvest” means and why it matters: Harvest is when crops are gathered, marking the end of the growing period. Culture and celebration through food: Different cultures celebrate fresh food with festivals, music, and special meals. Global examples of harvest traditions: The text highlights foods and celebrations from multiple places (South Korea, East Asia, Southern India, North America, Germany, Jewish communities, Nigeria/West Africa, Italy). Symbolism in foods: Some foods represent ideas (a mooncake’s center represents the moon; an overflowing Pongal pot symbolizes abundance). Connecting people to nature and community: Harvest foods connect people to the earth and to each other, and help share nature’s bounty in the community. Learning Goals Students will explain what harvest time is using details from the text. Students will identify several harvest celebrations in the book and name a food connected to each one. Students will describe how at least two harvest foods are made or served, using the text’s descriptions. Students will explain what the text says certain foods symbolize (such as abundance or the moon). Students will compare how harvest celebrations are similar and different across regions described in the book. Students will explain how harvest foods connect people, according to the last paragraph. Key Vocabulary From the Text bounty — a large amount of good food or crops. crescent-shaped — shaped like a curved, thin moon. signature — the most special or well-known thing for something. abundance — more than enough; a lot of something. gratitude — feeling thankful. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What foods do you think people might eat to celebrate the harvest in different places? Comprehension questions: What does the book say harvest time is? What does the overflowing pot of Pongal symbolize? In the last paragraph, what do harvest foods connect people to? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Perfect for combining creativity and humor, this activity will leave everyone thankful for laughter, storytelling, and turkeys with BIG dreams. Bonus: no turkeys were harmed in the making of these tales! Enjoy!

Unless you’re that one kid who insists on making the turkey purple because, and I quote, “It’s my artistic vision.” And honestly, who are we to argue? As your students work through these pages, they’ll unveil cheerful Thanksgiving scenes without even realizing they’re practicing focus and color-matching skills. It’s educational, but let’s keep that between us, no need to ruin the fun with big words. Thanksgiving : A Short History
Holiday & Seasonal, Social Studies, Holidays, Thanksgiving, History, History: USA, Not Grade Specific, Activities
Teach your students about the history and traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday. Reading sheets cover the following topics: EARLY HISTORY Students learn about ancient harvest/autumn festivals celebrated around the world. THE PILGRIMS Covers other examples of thanksgiving services in colonial Virginia and also tells the story of the early Thanksgiving celebrations in New England. Here's a short text example: "The most famous early thanksgiving took place at Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1621. A group of settlers, known as the Pilgrims, had arrived on the coast just as winter was beginning. Without enough food, around 50% died over the next few months. The local Massasoit Native Americans helped the Pilgrims by giving them food and showing them how to use fish as a food for growing corn. After the harvest there was a feast at which around 50 Pilgrims and 90 Massasoit ate corn, ducks, geese, swans, venison, fish, and oysters as well as fruits and vegetables. The Pilgrims held another thanksgiving feast in 1623 after weeks of rain had ended a long drought which was killing many of their crops. Over the next 150 years many other people in New England began holding their own thanksgiving celebrations but at different times of the year. These celebrations were especially important because, in many parts of New England, Christmas celebrations were banned." THE 1700s & 1800s Informs students about how and why the celebration of Thanksgiving expanded in both centuries, especially the period of the Civil War THE 20th CENTURY Students learn about the impacts of World War One and World War Two on the celebration of Thanksgiving as well as how improvements in road and air travel made family celebrations easier. ACTIVITIES Students can use the information they learn to create an illustrated timeline showing the history of Thanksgiving. The timeline sheets come in a blank and illustrated version depending on your students' needs. There are also materials to create a poster version of the project as well. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES The file also contains a fun crossword activity and coloring pages. There is also a PowerPoint to help guide teachers and students through each part of the unit.
