Sorting What goes together FOOD

Sorting What goes together FOOD
Special Resources, Life Skills, Math, Early Math, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Activities

In this educational activity , the learner will be presented with a set of food items, such as lettuce, cheese, ham, bread, tomato, pickle, mustard, and mayonnaise, along with a picture card of a sandwich. The goal of the activity is for the learner to sort the food items that go together to make the sandwich. Other food in this activity is baked potato, hamburger, taco, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, hot dog First, provide the learner with the picture card of the sandwich, and ask them to identify the different food items that go together to make the sandwich. The learner can then sort the food items into groups based on their function in the sandwich, such as the bread, filling, and condiments. To make the activity more engaging, the educator can use real food items instead of picture cards, and ask the learner to physically assemble the sandwich. This will not only reinforce the learner's understanding but also provide a hands-on learning experience. Next you can introduce the different food cards and discuss their differences, such as their taste, texture, and nutritional value. Then present the various sorting cards for the different foods and discuss the various different foods that go with the food card. Some food cards may have some of the same sorting cards For example cheese might be on pizza, baked potato, hamburger and a sandwich which makes it a great time to discuss how the some foods fit in with other foods. Lastly you could discuss the importance of a balanced diet and how the different foods contribute to overall health and well-being. The learner can also be encouraged to come up with their own healthy sandwich combinations, using the knowledge they have gained from the activity . By engaging in hands-on sorting the learner can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. It is also easy to individualize and can be used in a group setting or one on one. This activity is easy to create and assemble. Print and laminate for many years of teaching and learning. Enjoy! This resource is an Economics: Personal Finance Student Project. In this 18 page product (Google and Traditional version provided) students will have everything they need to complete a research project on personal finance. While completing this project, students will develop an understanding of how much it really costs to live on their own and support themselves. They will find a job and then will plan a household budget based on that income/salary. This budgeting activity will require students to: find a job they qualify for with a high school diploma OR college degree (based on their future plans), find a place to live, an automobile, car insurance, food, utilities etc. all within their budget. Students will also learn the pros and cons of credit and credit card use and will compare the features of 2 credit card offers. Lastly, students will write a written reflection of their overall budget and learning. This project is very “hands-on” and forces students to really research the expenses applicable to running their own household. Several free public access video links are included, which will guide students in their research on finding a career, budgeting, and the basics of credit. ***Teacher Directions and Step-by-step student directions and worksheets are included. **A GOOGLE and traditional version provided! About: Learning is a Passion Store - I have taught 6th-12th grade during my 20 year teaching career. I prefer to use lessons in my teaching practice that allow my students to become facilitators and active participants in their own learning rather than merely an audience of "my show". I love to create hands- on, interactive activities that really engage my students in the learning process.
