There are other addition and subtraction strategies out there. These are the strategies I’ve found to be the easiest to use and understand. Here is a breakdown of strategies by the week. WEEK ONE: -Decomposition (or split) Strategy -Number Line (or jump) Strategy -Use EITHER OR of the first two strategies -Word problem solving using any strategy WEEK TWO: -Friendly Number Strategy -Compensation Strategy -Use EITHER OR of the first two strategies -Word problem solving using any strategy WEEK THREE: -Transformation Strategy -Number Line (or jump) Strategy -Use EITHER OR of the first two strategies -Word problem solving using any strategy WEEK FOUR: -Separation (or breaking apart) Strategy -Subtracting From Nines Strategy -Use EITHER OR of the first two strategies -Word problem solving using any strategy WEEK FIVE: -Students will have 4 practice pages to use any strategy of their choice. Every page included in this packet will provide students with the space they need to solve the problems. Each strategy will come with an example problem already completed for students to reference as they apply that strategy to the other problems on the page. It would be great to use these pages as an informal assessment (whether you decide to use them as homework or not). You can always pull students in small groups and watch as they solve these problems and provide the necessary support for students.

3rd Grade Color by Code Math Worksheet - Polygons

Reviewing 3rd grade math standards is a must to help your students succeed. There are so many new concepts they have to learn throughout the year, but we really don't want them to forget what they've already learned. A fun way to get students practicing key concepts is to have math color pages. This math color by code has students look at polygons. Students have to identify triangles, quadrilaterals, and hexagons. Students then color the shapes based on which shape it is. You may need to do a problem on the page with them, to make sure students understand how to complete it. When I do this with my students they always have to show their answer, and not just the color. I have students complete the problems in pencil and color around. Or, they can trace with a sharpie and color over that. If they only have the color, you won't know if they truly understand the skill. I have several of these worksheets , and I like to put them together in a quilt book to show math review throughout the school year.
