As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. This lesson plan was developed for students of various grades and writing abilities. You know your students best, so remove any pages that do not make sense for your students. Included are the following that you may find helpful as a supplement or optional pieces: • An additional information page to be used to supplement any other parts of the report • Blank page that can be copied to expand the report if needed • Two different formats for note-taking pages, depending on how you want them to take notes or if you want to give them a choice. • Rubric for the written report • Editing/Revising Checklist to have students check their work themselves • Common Core Writing Standard Bibliography vs. Resource Page • We have included two ways to have your students cite their sources. You can use either or both. • The Resource Page is a way for young students to learn about resources and the need to have to cite them and give credit to the originators of the information. We have provided an example page and a blank page. • Some elementary students are not ready for a full-blown Bibliography and others are (differentiation). We left this template blank, so you can teach which Bibliography format that you wish to teach or omit it if your students are not yet ready for a bibliography. Essential Questions • One element of the common core standards is the move toward questioning and embedding higher-level thinking questions into the assignments. After the students have learned about the various aspects of weather, they are tasked with answering some questions that involve higher-level thinking skills.

Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7) Do you want to give your students real world math practice for addition and subtraction up to 4 digits? Do you want to show them how the math they learn in the classroom is helpful in everyday life? Do you want to find a way to have them practice loads of math without even noticing? Then this financial literacy board game is perfect for you! How to Use: Print the two page handout double-sided for each student. Go through the bank account vocabulary together as a class. Then give your students time to try to match the vocabulary words to the clues. Next, talk about what actions help your bank balance and what actions hurt it, and try to think of more examples as a class. Now you are ready for the game! Print a game board for each group of 2-4 students, have six-sided dice, and small objects to use as counters. The game’s main objective is to educate students about financial literacy concepts such as spending (withdrawing) and saving (depositing) money within the context of a bank account. Each child takes turns rolling a six-sided die while using counters on the board. Students start with a $300 bank balance, and each turn leads them to a realistic scenario that increases or decreases their balance. I encourage students to use a scrap piece of paper to keep a running tally of their balance throughout the game. Although rare, some sequences of turns can result in negative balances. If this occurs, you can help your students use integers to calculate a negative balance OR create a rule that students can not have a balance below zero, so they can not complete that action and must miss. a turn. Grades to Use With: This game is perfect for students in grades 3-7 who are practicing adding and subtracting with numbers into the thousands.
