Teaching Theme vs. Main Idea: The Complete Reading Comprehension Toolk
Reading Comprehension, Reading, ELA, Not Grade Specific, Anchor Charts, Teacher Tools
Let’s be honest, teaching "Theme" is tough. It is one of the most abstract concepts for upper elementary students to grasp. If I had a nickel for every time I asked a student, "What is the theme of this story?" and they just retold the entire plot back to me, I’d have a lot of nickels. It is a classic struggle in grades 3-6. They constantly mix up the "universal lesson" (Theme) with the specific summary (Main Idea). I designed this resource pack simply because I needed better tools to handle this confusion in my own classroom. I needed visuals that made sense to kids right away, and I needed materials that didn't take me hours to prep. The hand-drawn style is intentional to make it feel friendly and approachable for students. Here is exactly what you get in this download (it’s all ready to print and use): 4 Classroom Anchor Charts: These are meant to be hung up as constant reminders. The most valuable one here is the side-by-side comparison chart of "Theme vs. Main Idea." It really helps stop the confusion. There is also a "Common Themes List" to help students who struggle to find the right vocabulary. Interactive Notebook Pages: I made a black-and-white, single-page version of the four charts. Students can cut these out and glue them into their reading journals. They love coloring them in while I teach, and it gives them a personal reference tool. The "Theme Explorer" Worksheet: This page forces students to slow down. It has separate boxes for the Main Idea and the Theme, and crucially, asks for text evidence to back up their thinking. It's great for independent reading accountability. Quick Exit Tickets: A simple tool for the last five minutes of class. Hand them out to see immediately who understood the lesson and who needs a check-in tomorrow. This pack isn't about fluff; it's about practical tools to help your students finally understand the "heart of the story" and saving you some prep time.

I can count by 9's to 100 or 120
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Multiplication and Division, Division, Numbers, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
I Can Count by 9's to 100 or 120 Let young mathematicians practice skip counting by 9's using an engaging 100 or 120 chart ! This interactive worksheet allows students to highlight or circle numbers that are nine numbers apart, such as 9, 18, 27, and so on up to 100 or even 120. Seeing the skip counting sequence visually aids learning and builds number sense. Students can refer back to the chart later when solving multiplication problems. For example, instead of memorizing 9 x 4 = 36, students can skip count by 9's (9, 18, 27, 36) to find the answer. This activity lays a foundation for multiplication by showing that skip counting is repeated addition (ex. 9 x 5 = five groups of 9). Use this versatile resource in small groups, as independent practice, or even homework.

Probability UNIT TEST
Math, Statistics, Grade 7, Tests, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools
This resource was developed to meet the requirements of the 7th Grade Statistics & Probability Standards below: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.5 Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.6 Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.7 Develop a probability model and use it to find probabilities of events. Compare probabilities from a model to observed frequencies; if the agreement is not good, explain possible sources of the discrepancy. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.7.A Develop a uniform probability model by assigning equal probability to all outcomes, and use the model to determine probabilities of events. For example, if a student is selected at random from a class, find the probability that Jane will be selected and the probability that a girl will be selected. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.7.B Develop a probability model (which may not be uniform) by observing frequencies in data generated from a chance process. For example, find the approximate probability that a spinning penny will land heads up or that a tossed paper cup will land open-end down. Do the outcomes for the spinning penny appear to be equally likely based on the observed frequencies? CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.8 Find probabilities of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree diagrams , and simulation. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.8.A Understand that, just as with simple events, the probability of a compound event is the fraction of outcomes in the sample space for which the compound event occurs. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.8.B Represent sample spaces for compound events using methods such as organized lists, tables and tree diagrams . For an event described in everyday language (e.g., "rolling double sixes"), identify the outcomes in the sample space which compose the event. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.C.8.C Design and use a simulation to generate frequencies for compound events. For example, use random digits as a simulation tool to approximate the answer to the question: If 40% of donors have type A blood, what is the probability that it will take at least 4 donors to find one with type A blood?
