IR: Phonics Workbook Reading Made Simple
Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Spelling, Kindergarten, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Reading Made Simple — Free IR Phonics Workbook These little workbooks have been a quiet favourite with families using Reading Made Simple for some time now. Each one focuses on a single sound and prints on just one sheet of A4 paper — double-sided, folded in half to make a neat A5 booklet that children can hold and work through at their own pace. They are entirely optional. The phonics programme works perfectly well without them, but many parents and teachers find them a useful companion — either as structured practice or simply as a source of ideas to dip into when needed. Tested by real children: One 5-year-old user is quoted as having said, 'The worksheet is the best bit of my lessons!' Other parents have noted that their child likes the worksheet because 'they think it is easy'. When learning is broken down into small, achievable steps, with no curve balls to throw them off track, every child can say, 'I can read!' When I hear these reviews, I know that I have succeeded in my aim to write a phonics curriculum that can help children of all abilities learn to read and spell. These little workbooks are just one small part of what there is to offer. Please do check out the website for more information. Each workbook offers a gentle mix of activities built around the target sound. Children will read short passages that practise the new sound alongside words from sounds already taught, track and identify the sound within words to support both reading and spelling, practise spelling and sentence writing, and work through simple editing exercises where they spot and correct mistakes. These small editing tasks are particularly worthwhile — they encourage children to look carefully at words rather than guessing from context. The workbooks are particularly well-suited to younger children just beginning their phonics journey, and to older children with special educational needs who are still building their foundational reading and spelling skills. That said, they will not suit every child. Some will find them too long, others too straightforward. Use your own judgement — pick the activities that fit, leave the rest, or set them aside entirely. There is no obligation and no right or wrong way to use them. To print: print double-sided, flipping on the short edge. Fold in half to create your A5 booklet. The answer page at the back is optional. One sheet of paper. One sound. Everything a child needs to practise, consolidate and grow in confidence.

These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter C to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. Using beautiful images, this crab life cycle poster and sequencing cards packet, allows students to become familiar with the life cycle of a crab. This makes a great science activity for summer or a beach theme. What is Included: This packet includes a crab life cycle poster as well as sequencing cards that go along with each step in the life cycle poster. How to Use: The life cycle poster makes a great visual display in a science center for students to look at and explore the life cycle of a crab. The sequencing cards can also be placed in the science center. Students can use the poster as a reference to place the sequencing cards in the correct order. Another way to use the sequencing cards is to place the cards on a ring in the correct order so students can flip through the life cycle of a crab. Where to Use: Besides the science center, the teacher can use the life cycle poster as an instructional tool to show and teach students about the life cycle of a crab. The cards can also be placed in a pocket chart by students or the teacher to represent the life cycle with a hands-on activity. The crab life cycle poster is a no prep display the teacher can use to teach about this science concept. The poster can be printed on card stock or laminated for durability. The sequencing cards require some easy prep. They need to be printed and cut apart. Again, laminating these cards for durability is an option. Skills Assessed: This set will help students identify the life cycle of a crab. Using the reference of the life cycle poster, students will place the life cycle cards in the correct order. Students will learn that crabs start off as eggs, hatch into larvae, and then mature into adult crabs.
