Critical Thinking: Social Media Comments- Create a Class Constitution for Online Behaviour

Critical Thinking: Social Media Comments- Create a Class Constitution for Online Behaviour
Special Resources, Social Studies, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), History, Psychology, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Activities, Projects

Critical Thinking: Social Media Comments – Create a Class Constitution for Online Behaviour This dynamic teaching resource is designed to address the timely issue of online etiquette and cyberbullying. It is suited for students in the middle grades (6-10), using social media platforms as a focused topic. How to Use: Start by introducing the goal: Working together, we will design a class constitution about appropriate behavior when using Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Facebook, etc. Talk about using positive language when creating rules (DO instead of DON'T). Decide if you will allow students to find their own examples on approved social media sites, or look for examples yourself before giving this lesson. Go through the 4 scenarios: When someone looks different, When someone goes through a tragedy, When someone disagrees with you, When you disagree with what someone else does. For each scenario, students will look for examples of positive and negative comments, and you can use the prompt questions to get students thinking about how people act online in these situations. Finally, collectively determine a class rule for each situation. For example, When someone looks different... we will only comment if we have something kind to say! After the lesson, students can be assigned a reflective journal task so they can cohesively bring their ideas and thoughts from this lesson together. This lesson goes beyond imparting knowledge pertinent to today's digital landscape—it includes practical exercises that can aid in empathy building too! What's Included: 10 Pages in PowerPoint- so you can edit as you need to! Title Page How to Write Positive Rules Instructions for This Activity When Someone Looks Different Than You... When Someone Goes Through a Tragedy... When Someone Disagrees with You... When a Celebrity Does Something You Disagree With... Rules In Real Life Class Constitution for Social Media Reflection Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed to be accessible to students in the middle grades (6-10). At the younger end of this range, you may provide social media examples yourself, and with older students, they may be able to look up examples on their own.

a-e Decodable Reading Book Level 1: 24
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,

This decodable reading book introduces words with the split digraph a-e. This is book 24 in a series of highly structured decodable phonic reading books. Together they form an early phonic reading scheme, which can be used with any program provided the child has learned the necessary sounds and sight words to read each book. They follow on from our previous sets of: CVC Reading Books with matching workbooks Consonant Blends Reading Books with matching workbooks Level 1 Red Books. with matching workbooks These books are best read in sequence. This book contains words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or and a-e. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words from all five vowel families are gradually introduced, starting with those in the /a/ family. 5 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Proper punctuation is only used in the last three books. This is deliberate; it helps all children to access the reading material, including those for whom the introduction of capital letters and strange marks can be very off-putting. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including those with a special need, including dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Which words do the books contain? Only common sight words and decodable words with digraphs as listed above. Can children guess the text from the pictures? NO! Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading.
