Breaking the Big Words | Volume 2, Set 2
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Breaking the Big Words Volume 2, Set 2 Mastering syllable division helps young students become skilled decoders and confident readers. This phonics resource focuses on V/CV syllable patterns, open and closed syllable types, and two-three syllable words. The activities scaffold learning by introducing one syllable type at a time. As students gain mastery, supports fade to build independence. Visual aids ensure comprehension. Parts of each lesson include: new vocabulary words, review of familiar patterns, a “Break Before You Read” list to separate syllables, and a “Break While You Read” activity with sentences for generalization. Teachers can further apply this strategy by having students divide syllables in decodable texts, stories, content vocabulary, or worksheets. Eventually, supports like the syllable division steps can be removed as students copy and divide words independently. This volume allows early elementary students to feel successful recognizing syllable patterns. Confident decoders become passionate readers!
