Bingo Games #1: 7th Grade Math Review

Bingo Games #1: 7th Grade Math Review
, Not Grade Specific, Games, Activities

This Bingo Games #1: 7th Grade Math Review comes with two Bingo Games for 7th grade math reveiw. There are 2 games of 8 questions each. Skills covered are: proportional word problems, distributive property with fractions and decimals, upper and lower quartiles for a set of data, evualte expressions, solve an equation, mean for a set of data, word problems using increase and decrease with negative numbers, probability, trends in patterns with graphs, box and whisker plot, similar triangles, percent with ratios, order of operations with fractions and decimals. Directions for Bingo Game: Have students to make a 4 x 4 game board. They will fill in the answers in random order. This way everyone has a different board but all of the answers. Put up the first 2 questions. When all students finish #1, you can change to the second page, which still has #2 but also #3 for those that have also finished #2. This allows some students to work ahead when ready. When everyone has finished #2, move to the next screen, which has #3 and #4 as some students will be ready for #4. Continue in this way. Students will put a mark in the corner of the square---Don’t have them completely mark out their answers in the first game because they will use this same board in the second game. Students MUST show their work on paper to get credit for a BINGO. For the problems that don’t have work to show, they must explain their answer on paper. The first game uses questions #1-8. In a regular size class there should be 5-6 bingos after this many questions. You can start the second game #9-10 or save that for another class time. Just make sure students save their board because both games use the same board. I like to give a piece of candy (like jolly rancher) for BINGOs. I always help students with their problems since I used BINGO as practice not as an assessment.

Add and Subtract Integers Task Cards

Add and Subtract Integers Task Cards
Math, Numbers, Grade 7, 8, Task Cards, Worksheets & Printables

This resource is a set of 36 task cards that asks students to determine if the result of adding or subtracting integers will be negative or positive. They are NOT asked to actually find the sum or difference. I have used these task cards for both 7th and 8th grade students. An answer key is provided. A student recording sheet is provided. This activity is perfect to introduce the concept of adding and subtracting integers or to use as review at the beginning of a unit that will require that skill. Students are required to write the wordsnegativeorpositivein the numbered spot on the student recording sheet. While students are provided a prompt to ask them to explain how they know the result of the sum or difference will be positive or negative, they are not asked to provided their response in writing on the student recording sheet. I have found that it takes too long and is too tedious to have the students do this over and over again 36 times. I do, however, encourage you and them to practice justifying their answers verbally with a peer. This activity is great for both ELLs and native English speakers, and the use of sentence frames can help scaffold the activity for many types of diverse learners. Possible Ways to Use •Use as a scoot-style game, where a card is on every student desk and students rotate to a new desk every 30 seconds or so and write if the sum or difference will be positive or negative. •Use as an oral assessment , where you pull a task card and you have the student orally answer the prompt and say if the sum or difference is positive or negative and justify their thinking. •Use for stations, where you have the students do each card orally with a partner and also record the answer as positive or negative on the recording sheet. •Use as a “Footloose” style activity where the task cards are taped or placed in various places around the room and students wander around to record the answer to all of the task cards on the student recording sheet. I even like to play the theme song to Footloose while students are walking around.

Zombie Government Simulation

Zombie Government Simulation
Social Studies, Government, Grade 9, 10, 11, Activities, Projects

Zombie Government Teacher Simulation Guide Thanks for your support in getting this product! I worked hard to make it a flexible and fun adaptation of the activity I made for my classroom. Don’t hesitate to adapt the activity to best mesh with your classroom. The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate to students how difficult group decision making is, how tricky insurgent groups can be, and how community needs like food, water, education, and entertainment can quickly be neglected when safety concerns are major factors. Each day students will be in their small groups making decisions about their government. You, as the facilitator, act as a kind of game manager. Some groups will find making decisions very easy, others will struggle with basics such as who is in charge? As a general rule of thumb, I make announcements mid-class every day, like a newspaper of the simulation. I can use this opportunity to individualize the conditions within the various groups, or to make things harder on groups that are finding the task easy. See the following page for ideas I’ve used in the past. Here are some general ideas on “events” that could spring up in each QZ: -- Imposter! One of the group members is known to be working with the Fireflies, but it is unclear who (approach a student before class to let them know) -- Food crisis! Rations are short, and it is unclear how to feed the population -- Road blocks! The Fireflies have blocked roads in order to combat the curfew. Now trucks, tanks, and vehicles cannot move throughout the city -- Tainted water! The diseased fungus has entered the water supply! How will the group let their residents know, and provide a solution? -- Assassination! The group leader has been taken out by the Fireflies. How will the group respond? -- An Olive Branch! The Fireflies have proposed a peace treaty, so long as they can have an equal say in all government decisions. If the group has a leader, they will now have 1 Government leader, and 1 Firefly leader. If they have a 5 person council, they will now have a 10 person council (half Fireflies), etc. -- And anything else you can think of! The more creativity the more the game sticks with students. I sincerely hope the simulation is as fun for your students as it typically is for mine.
