The goal of communism is to create a classless society where wealth and resources are distributed equally among all members. Capitalism, on the other hand, is a system in which individuals and businesses own property and produce goods and services for profit. In a capitalist system, prices are determined by supply and demand, and individuals are free to pursue their own self-interest through entrepreneurship and competition. Proponents of communism argue that it is a fairer and more equitable system, as everyone is provided with the same basic necessities of life and has equal access to education and healthcare. They believe that capitalism creates inequality and promotes greed, leading to exploitation of the working class by the wealthy elite. Advocates of capitalism, however, argue that it promotes innovation, growth, and economic freedom, leading to a higher standard of living and greater prosperity for all members of society. They believe that communism stifles creativity and individual initiative, and that the government control necessary for communism leads to corruption and inefficiency. Ultimately, the debate between communism and capitalism is one of competing values and priorities. While communism values equality and social welfare, capitalism values economic growth and individual freedom. The best system for a given society may depend on a variety of factors, including cultural values, historical context, and political climate. Students start off by taking a 10 question survey. They select "agree" or "disagree" with various statements regarding economic policies. Students also look at a chart comparison of Capitalism vs Communism. At the end of the activity the students tally up their points on the questions, and they are able to see if they identify with "capitalists" or "communist" ideology based on their answers. Students then read about each economic system (reading is provided - very short and student friendly). Lastly, students connect the information to the economic effects of capitalism on the United States, and they reflect on the unequal distribution of wealth in this country after watching a short 5 minute video (video link included). In this educational activity , the learner will be presented with a set of food items, such as lettuce, cheese, ham, bread, tomato, pickle, mustard, and mayonnaise, along with a picture card of a sandwich. The goal of the activity is for the learner to sort the food items that go together to make the sandwich. Other food in this activity is baked potato, hamburger, taco, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, hot dog First, provide the learner with the picture card of the sandwich, and ask them to identify the different food items that go together to make the sandwich. The learner can then sort the food items into groups based on their function in the sandwich, such as the bread, filling, and condiments. To make the activity more engaging, the educator can use real food items instead of picture cards, and ask the learner to physically assemble the sandwich. This will not only reinforce the learner's understanding but also provide a hands-on learning experience. Next you can introduce the different food cards and discuss their differences, such as their taste, texture, and nutritional value. Then present the various sorting cards for the different foods and discuss the various different foods that go with the food card. Some food cards may have some of the same sorting cards For example cheese might be on pizza, baked potato, hamburger and a sandwich which makes it a great time to discuss how the some foods fit in with other foods. Lastly you could discuss the importance of a balanced diet and how the different foods contribute to overall health and well-being. The learner can also be encouraged to come up with their own healthy sandwich combinations, using the knowledge they have gained from the activity . By engaging in hands-on sorting the learner can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. It is also easy to individualize and can be used in a group setting or one on one. This activity is easy to create and assemble. Print and laminate for many years of teaching and learning. Enjoy! Tipping is becoming more and more common and the amount you are expected to tip is increasing too. Make sure your students understand what tipping is and how to calculate a tip- useful life skills! Here’s a ready-to-print real-life percent math lesson for middle school students (in grades 6-9) or special education or life skills classes in a high school setting. Teach your class all about tipping culture and tips in both Canada and the United States. Why do people tip or give certain people a gratuity? What places do we tip? What places do we not? Has tipping been increasing recently ("tip-flation")? Show students how the math skills and concepts that they have been learning in class (percentages, decimals, division, fractions) can be useful in their everyday lives! How to Use: 1.
