Practicing Wonders Words to Know is often a bit of a boring task for most students. That's why we made it a bit more fun. First of all, you can guide students through the book along with the vocabulary list. Here it shows the part of speech, the word, the definition and an example sentence. This way, students don't even need their books anymore to practice all of the words at home. Another fun element is the word search. This word search is based on the definitions, so the student is not given the correct answer right away. This way, they really have to dig into their memories to come up with the correct answer. After all of the practicing is done, it is time to do the test. You can present this by first giving the definition and then to let the student fill out the correct answer. The second part is a fill in the blanks exercise.

BL Beginning Blends Worksheets

This BL fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the BL blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

CVC Reading Book 4 CVC Reading Book 4 is the fourth in a 16-book series designed to help beginning readers sound out simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. Using a systematic, phonetic approach, the CVC Reading Books introduce common CVC word families in a strategic sequence to develop decoding, reading fluency, and confidence. Book 4 focuses on CVC words with short vowel sounds like "cat," "log," and "top." The story features farmer Tom, his family, and his animals. Minimal pictures allow young readers to gain meaning from the text instead of guessing. Only 5 key sight words are gradually introduced. These decodable readers work well with any phonics program. Special needs, ESL/EFL learners, and struggling readers often benefit from the methodical phonics instruction. The books have been tested with K-1 students, especially boys who tend to prefer the farm theme. Teachers use them whole group, small group, or as homework to supplement phonics lessons.

Short Vowel a Decodable Readers

This is the first lesson in the Reading Made Simple Learn to Read and Spell Programme for Struggling Readers teaching the short vowel /a/. It can help struggling readers achieve reading fluency - perhaps after several years of failure, even perhaps after having been taught phonics with another programme. The programme follows a course of highly structured, synthetic, systematic phonics instruction. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. This is the first of the 5 vowel packs which should be undertaken in order: a, o, i, u, e. Objectives: To help children to develop a core set of decodable words, that they have seen enough times so that they no longer have to sound them out but can recognise them easily and recall them when needed. One of the biggest problems for struggling readers is that often, phonic reading books do not give the child a chance to see the same words again and again and so some children are forced to sound out nearly every word, which slows their speed of reading right down and means that they often cannot understand what they have read. Who is the programme for? This Learn to Read and Spell Programme is for children who have got stuck after learning to sound out CVC words and for whom reading fluency seems elusive. We gradually introduce blends gradually as usually one word with a blend in the family is included each week. Order, outlined and steps: The Reading Made Simple Reading and Spelling programme for struggling readers focuses the child's attention on around ten words containing the same phonic sound, at a time. For struggling readers, these lists are subdivided into two sets of 5 and the lesson is spread over 2 weeks. During these two weeks, the words are practised in various different ways: On flashcards provided Sentence building with the flashcards Speed reading of just the ten words Sentence writing activities Fluency charts Games Reading books which only contain the ten words, plus the true sight words: a, the is in this first pack. The reading books should be used as a form of assessment and any words which the child needs to sound out ca be practised further, while you move on to the next sound. Multisensory: Children who struggle to learn to read often need a multisensory approach. This Learn to Read and Spell programme uses the power of the hand to provide the multisensory dimension so often lacking in many 'learn to read' programmes. The child not only sounds out the words to read, but also to write. The words are then put into sentences to read and write, building up as we go into longer text Confidence building Because we are working with a discrete set of words, with the same sound, the child soon learns to recognise the words in each lesson, having sounded them out, read them, written them many times in many fun ways. As the child reads each book, you can watch as s/he finally begins to say, 'I can do this!' as s/he meets familiar words. What is included: 2 packs of activities and worksheets 2 reading books 2 games Full teaching instructions, Directions There is a simple lesson plan that is the same each week: On Monday, introduce the new sound and 5 words as directed and teach them as explained. Tuesday to Thursday, rigorously practice the words using the activities in the pack. On Friday, do a dictation (provided) and read the book for each week. .

This resource is a comprehensive lesson that uses 20 bird-related vocabulary words. First off, you can introduce these words by using the PDF -based presentation. With the arrow keys, you just move from one word to another to make your students familiar with them. Next, You can hand out the vocabulary lists. Beware that these are made with color, so in order to be eco-friendly you might want to use black and white ink. Once the students have taken these lists home, they can do the vocabulary test in their next class. They can practice with the words by utilizing the included flash cards. These just need to be printed, laminated, and cut. Beware of sharp edges though. You can use the curved edges version to avoid annoying pinches. Finally, use the Wacky Words activity to have a really good time in class. With this, all the letters are mixed up. Students love this.
