Linear Functions vs Nonlinear Functions
, Grade 8, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This worksheet helps students to connect graphs and equations and distinguish linear functions from nonlinear functions. The aim is to understand that the equation y = mx + b defines a linear function, whose graph is a straight line. This is for common core course 8.F.A.3. How to use: The first three pages have 6 graphs and a box at the bottom of the page. Students should pick equations from the box and connect them to the right graph. After that, they have to decide whether the graph-equation pair is a linear function. After that, there is a page of concept understanding, where students have to give verbal answers to the following questions: What do linear functions look like in a coordinate plane? Can you think of any situation when a straight line in a coordinate plane is not a function? Give three examples of equations of linear functions. Give two examples of equations of nonlinear functions. Along obviously linear and nonlinear functions, there is a task where the function is piecewise linear. (The students are supposed to answer that it's not linear, and in the answers section the concept of piecewise linear is explained.) There are 4 task pages and 2 answer pages in this resource.

Adding and subtracting fractions mixed numbers unlike denominators
Math, Fractions, Grade 5, 6, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans
This pdf goes trough adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers. There are 4 pages of theory, 12 pages of practice (171 tasks) and 13 pages of answers. This is designed for 5th grade math students, but can be used also with a bit older students. The first section explains addition and subtraction with fractions. At first, we recall terms numerator and denominator and remind students that in order to add or subtract you have to have the same denominator. The second section is about addition and subtraction with mixed numbers. Here, we also get to know the concept of improper fractions. The third section is about least common denominators. Here, we also introduce the sieve of Eratosthenes with 100 numbers. Then, we practise finding prime factors for some numbers between 20 and 200. The section 4 is for practising all the concepts introduced in this resource in mixed order. There is also a table for investigating pairs of numbers, their factors, factors of LCD and finding the LCD. Most answers have also intermediate steps visible, so it's easier for students to revisit their work themselves. This material is suitable for independent work packet, but also for classroom work or homework.

Linear vs Nonlinear Functions PowerPoint for Math Course 8.F.A.3 An unexceptional teaching resource for Grade 8 educators, focusing on the enthralling sphere of functions, particularly linear and nonlinear variants. Specifically crafted to bridge learners' concept understanding and unravel their representation through equations and graphs. Conceptual Progression in Linear and Nonlinear Functions A systematic progression in information presentation begins from establishing foundational concepts on linear function forms y=mx+b, striving towards full comprehension of how this translates graphically into straight lines. Learners familiarize with the classic math symbols via illustrations on input-output correlations using x and y variables complemented by coordinate plane examples. Nonlinear functions are introduced gradually from basic instances to highlighting some similar attributes they can share with linear ones given certain conditions met by their exponents. A Practical Approach Tasks prompting graph-equation matching provide an enriching hands-on experience , bringing theoretical constructs alive while encouraging active engagement throughout a learner’s journey. Critical thinking is invoked via questions designed around unusual cases like vertical lines, steering attention towards what truly defines a function amid common algebraic behaviors perceptions. The Summative Angle & Educator Flexibility This lesson culminates in summarizing all presented aspects neatly setting firm groundwork about functions ahead of subsequent lessons. Being editable except for diagrams affords flexibility in tailoring according to class dynamics maintaining standard requisites nonetheless. Practicality within varied pedagogical scenarios comes packed given its adaptability across whole-group lectures, small group discussions or homework assignments. A tribute to focused content delivery, concept clarity, interactive features, and format adaptability; Graphs phased out of visible scales reinforce focus on general attributes over example numbers. This worksheet is for 8th grade math course 8.F.B.4. There are two types of tasks: Constructing functions from graphs and constructing functions from tables. We are always looking for the form y=mx+b. This worksheet is a printable pdf that includes answers. This worksheet doesn’t represent any new skills to the students, at this point they should be able to construct functions from graphs and tables. However, the skill of constructing functions from tables may need some more practice at this point of their 8th grade math studies. The tasks with graphs are not too hard; some of them have fractions as rate of change, but the grid is placed so that you should be able to find exact values for the rate of change. The graphs have different grids to make the students pay careful attention. As for tasks with tables, students need to find the rate of change and the initial value (y-intercept) from the tables that represent real life situations. They usually also have to do some calculations before the can construct a function. Some examples of real life situations are: prices that include pay per unit and a delivery fee or dose of a medicine. This resource has 7 task pages and 1 answer page
