US History Regents Short Essay "Constitutional Foundations 4" + Video Lessons This product is a short essay task in the format of the new New York State Regents examination in US History and Government. The updated New York State Regents examination in United States History and Government, part II, is a short essay task designed to measure students’ ability to work with historic documents. It is a mature version of the “CRQ” found on the tenth grade Global Regents. Students are called upon to understand text, engage it with historical context, and assess a text’s reliability. In document set 1, students describe the historical context surrounding two documents and identify and explain the relationship between the events and/or ideas found in those documents (Cause/Effect or Similarity/Difference or Turning Point). Document set 2 asks students to describe the historical context surrounding two documents and (for one identified document) analyze and explain how audience, or purpose, or bias, or point of view affects the document’s use as a reliable source of evidence. [ Read more about teaching this at the Innovation blog ] If you are afraid to assign your students this as a test because they are not likely to do well at first and don’t want to bother their GPA, I recommend using standardized scoring. You can use the z-score calculator here at Innovation Assessments . Use 78 as your standard mean and 14.8 as your standardized standard deviation. The beauty of this system is you can apply this to their grades every month and as the class improves, as the class average approaches the standardized mean (78 in this case), then the algorithm affects their scores less and less. I Have Who Has Class Game for Multiplication Facts

I Have Who Has is a class favorite. Use this set of thirty - two cards with the multiplication facts from 2 to 10. Pass a card out to each student. You may need to give some students 2 cards depending on your class size. Any student can start with their Who Has multiplication problem, such as Who Has 5 x 7. The student with 35 at the top of their card will say I Have 35 and then read their Who Has problem. This will continue until the last card is read. If done correctly, every student's card will be used. Complete directions for the teacher are included. You can use this set over and over. Students get a different card each time and and there will be a different starting card each time. I always timed my students on completing the set and then challenged them to beat their time. This is a great filler activity or a fun way to start the class. This skill corresponds to the 3rd grade math Common Core standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers. ,

With this Canadian Cities: Place Value to Millions Activity your upper elementary or intermediate students will be able to apply their place value knowledge (to the millions position). Students will find the populations of 11 Canadian cities (Charlottetown, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Vancouver, Whitehorse, and Yellowknife) round each one to the nearest ten thousand work with the numbers: ordering, comparing, identifying specific place value spots, and writing in expanded form This Canadian Cities: Place Value to Millions Activity includes a population chart for 11 Canadian cities a worksheet with 8 questions an extension sheet with 4 challenges an answer key to easily mark the assignment out of 40 Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed for students in grades 4-6 who are learning or reviewing place value concepts (it can be used by Canadian students, of course, but also by students in other countries too!). It could be a great beginning of the year activity as you ease into your math curriculum. It could also be used in high school special education classrooms. How to Use: This activity could be used as an in-class assessment during a place value unit. There is an answer key to easily mark the first two pages out of 40. Make Star by Graphing Linear Equations in Two Variables

This Make Star by Graphing Linear Equations in Two Variables activity provides a fun way for students to practice graphing linear equations in two variables. Students will graph 16 eqations on the same coordinate plane. The lines graphed will make a star and then students can color their own. Please see the pictures uploaded. There are two options for equations for students to graph. One sheet has all equations in slope-intercept form. The second sheet has half the equations in slope - intercept form and half in standard form. Students can graph using the slope and y - intercept or using the zeros of the function or a combination of both. The equations have whole numbers, fractions, and positive and negative numbers. There are even 4 equations where the y - intercept is a fraction. You have the option of not using these equations because a sheet with those lines already graphed is included. I suggest you, the teacher, make a copy of the key on an overhead sheet. You can then check the students every 4 to 5 lines that they graph. Students will number their lines to help you check their work and more easily identify incorrect lines. This was a favorite of my students. A great way to reinforce graphing.

Kelso's Choices Battle Brackets-A Fun SEL Game

Basketball brackets can be used for anything-not just basketball! In this SEL product, students will get excited about participating in a Kelso's Choices bracket battle! Kelso's Choices are 9 ways to solve small problems. There are 5 different Kelso's Choices bracket templates and one blank one. One of the templates is nonverbal versus verbal choices. This is fully editable as it is a Google Slide Presentation. There are 24 different scenarios for students to contemplate and choose Kelso's Choices for. This can be played as a whole class or small group. To play, you give each group a certain scenario. Then they begin with discussing one of the 2 competitors among the 8 competitor choices. Students keep track of the votes and the winner moves on to the semi-final round (4 choices), then the winners of that, move on to the final round. You could even have all small groups talk about the same scenario and the whole class does a final vote for the winner. It is up to you how you wish to play the game . Some of the scenarios are; someone will not let you play, someone cut in front of you, someone teased you, someone called you a name, someone made fun of what you are wearing, someone accused you of cheating, etc. You can also edit the scenarios to make it work for your groups or class. The key to keeping this engaging and a higher-order activity is to have students say which choice they would use and why. Students can share a time they used that particular choice, when a choice works or does not work, or the best conflicts for each choice. Students can also share a time when a particular choice did not work and that is why they did not vote for it or share a time when a particular choice worked and that is why they voted for it. Have fun with this engaging resource!
