Here’s a quick way to include real-world math , finding the difference (subtraction), and number lines in your daily calendar routine each morning in kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade! Have your students record the day's high and the day's low temperature in your city on this large thermometer. Then you can find the difference : which is the daily temperature range! INCLUDES METRIC (℃) & IMPERIAL (℉) How to Use this Calendar Routine: • Note: This product is created to be printed on large 11x17 paper! • Print a large thermometer (with your preferred units C or F) in colour. • Laminate the thermometer. • Then hang it up as part of your morning calendar routine. • Each day, you will look up the day's high and the day's low temperature in your city. • With your students, record the date, the high temperature, and the low temperature on the laminated chart using a whiteboard marker. • Have one or two students come up to circle the high & low temperature on the thermometer. • Then students can help you calculate the difference between these two temperatures to determine the daily temperature range. Many strategies can be used: Counting the dashes in between the two numbers Using mental math or known benchmarks (make a 10) Using the standard subtraction algorithm How to Use This as a Worksheet: • You could also print a thermometer on legal-sized paper to use as a worksheet for your students to complete. This allows assessment of their knowledge of number lines measurement finding the difference integers (if using Celsius in the winter) Grades to Use With: This daily calendar routine is created for students in kindergarten, 1st grade, or 2nd grade.
