This Frogs decodable easy reader for guided reading is great for very young children who are just learning to read and know the most basic digraphs and trigraphs. Children can learn about the life cycle of a frog while they develop their reading skills. This is important for children who need to learn to integrate their new skills into their reading. The child is supported to read fluently as the book only uses commonly taught sight words and all other words are decodable. This gives the child much-needed confidence to read. This is a non-fiction book, providing a gentle introduction to non-fiction for emerging readers. It can be used alongside a project on Frogs, or stand-alone. It can be used with any programme once a child has learned the basic digraphs and trigraphs. This includes after Phase 5 of Letters and Sounds and after RWI Speed Set 3. Who is it for? It is ideal for use in the classroom, for ESL/EFL, for home education It can be used with children aged 5 to 7, or with older struggling readers, especially those with special needs. Parents teachers and private tutors can use it - anyone who needs it! A first decodable, informational, phonic reader about oak trees for those just taking off in reading. A simple 8-page book for the young child, or an older one with special needs. This book may contain words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e and u-e, ai, ea and oa. It can be enjoyed by any child who knows these phonic sounds. It is also part of the Reading Made Simple reading scheme. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: New vocabulary is repeated to aid fluency and build word recognition All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! The PowerPoint has a useful shield to block off text until it is ready to be revealed and a marker to run under the text. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long is this book? Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development. In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers. A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.
